Guest guest
I too am kind of a beginner. I have had my vitamix for awhile but typically always stuck to the same thing, loved the strawberry daquiris it made! But since I found this group I bought some spinach and am trying to get adventurous, have not tried kale yet but I think I will try your suggestions. Did you make the almond milk as well in your vitamix. I heard you can. Oh yes btw group it is all your fault but I bought a bread machine now. They were on clearance at my favourite store. I don't know how it works in the us but here in canada if the price ends in 7 it is on clearance. I finally made a successful loaf today but it was not 100% whole wheat, maybe 60/40 but it had sunflower seeds and sesame seeds in it. It is amazing. I can't wait to try it out when the kids come tomorrow night! In a message dated 3/1/2011 3:16:07 P.M. It was fresh mango, fresh banana, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, Some fresh kefir, and some unsweetened almond milk. I threw in a couple ice Cubes but could have just used some water because I let it run until its not so Iced anyway, just cool and real creamy. Oh yes, 1 kale leaf. Like I said, I could Have used another small kale leaf. I don't care for the taste if it gets too strong, so I Held back on it. Next time I will hopefully remember the flavors could have masked another kale. (I am learning) just a beginner. Lol k
Guest guest
I make my own bread too, but the almost old fashioned way. I let the kitchen aid knead it for the most part, but I bake it in bread pans. Don't have a bread machine. I use 1 cup white flour and the rest is whole wheat. Also add extra wheat bran, sunflower seeds, ground flax, wheat germ. Only about a TB of honey for sweetener. Coconut oil for the oil and natural salt. WHat I like is I can cut a thin slice for toast. Other than that I am not eating bread. k -- Re: Have to share Oh, just wait! Keep your checkbook handy, we have lots more gadgets and groceries to talk you into, lol. What kind of machine did you get? GREAT that your first loaf was a success! My mother bought me my first machine when they first came out in the 80's, and we tried it out together-we were STUNNED at how lovely the loaf came out! I have been hooked ever since. It was a devastating blow when I was diagnosed with celiac disease and couldn't eat wheat anymore, but I have since mastered gluten free baking, both with and without a bread machine. Glad you are enjoying yours!. Try using tomato juice instead of milk or water, and add a little basil or other fresh herb for an AMAZING loaf! If you want a sweet breakfast loaf, use some apple juice and a bit of nutmeg or cinnamon. The possibilities are endless!Your Group Switch to: Text-Only, Daily Digest • Unsubscribe • Terms of Use .. Guest guest
I am already a really bad gadget person!!! I have done the pamered chef parties and tupperware. I managed to get most of my gadgets that were important to me with me. The x never knew how to cook and still does not. The kids do the cooking, mostly my 12 year old daughter. And I already had a bread machine before but that somehow I did not get. I did leave behind my mason jars and now after reading the notes on jars, I want to go out and get more. They do sound like a good idea to store things in. My kitchen is not that big now though so I have to beware. The machine I got is a "Breadman". I really did not shop around, just happened to be at Costco and low and behold it was on clearance! $69.97 (it was $99.99 before). So being the 'bad' shopper that I am, I could not resist. But still blaming this group for making me want one. I have found that things are more expensive in Canada than the US. My other favorite place to shop is the Outlet Mall in Michigan! But cannot afford to go to often, it is a 2.5 hour drive depending on border and my truck sucks the gas! I have to admit the first loaf did not turn out as well. I made a 100% whole wheat one and it was a bit heavy but better than the previous bricks. But the last one I made was just amazing and had sunflower seeds and sesame seeds but as I said not 100% whole wheat. I still would like to master a 100% ww one. I do not think I have a gluten allergy so I guess ok with real wheat flour. How do you know if you have a gluten allergy? What were your syptoms of celiac disease. I just looked it up to find out more about it because I have heard so much of people not tolerating gluten. I have problems with anemia and low B12 and have to take a B12 supplement. I use to have to take B12 injections because it was that low. I was also told that I had irritable bowel syndrome at one point. But I do have severe endometriosis that I have been told can cause IBS and a host of other problems. I do suffer terrible heartburn though and have tried to come off of the nexium ever since I read the notes from the group on it being bad for you and ended up throwing up at night with the heartburn so recently back on the nexium but every other day. I actually think the green smoothies make it worse. Any ideas from any one on the heartburn. Never diagnosed with acid reflux but assume that is what it is. Guest guest
It certainly sounds like you would benefit from trying to remove gluten from your diet for a couple of weeks, see if you notice any improvement. I was diagnosed with IBS and had issues most of my life-ALL of those issues resolved when I went off gluten. Worth a shot-just be sure to educate yourself on all the HIDDEN sources of gluten, or your results will be inaccurate._,_._,___
Guest guest
Carolyn- I too suffer from terrible heartburn/acid issues. There are times even water will give me heartburn/acid issues. Not sure if it is same type or not but...this was my experience. I have always been very fond on Newman's Own Lighten Up Raspberry & Walnut Dressing. Once after suffering several nights over a weeks or so time period, I realized I did not have it as bad on the nights I had a salad. Good excuse to up the amount of dressing I was using. Kept track and when I had the salads...no heartburn/acid issues at all. I had been taking zantac, drinking baking soda and water, tums, everything I could think of and it never helped. So...next time I felt it coming on...I just took a couple spoonfuls of the dressing. It stopped and no problems the rest of the night. So in my case it turns out my problem could be not having enough. I'm sure this won't help to many others, but might be worth a try. Vickey I do suffer terrible heartburn though and have tried to come off of the nexium ever since I read the notes from the group on it being bad for you and ended up throwing up at night with the heartburn so recently back on the nexium but every other day. Guest guest
Do you think it is the dressing or the salad or both? I want to go out and buy a bottle if I thought it would work, or maybe try some of the recipes posted. I would really like to stop taking the nexium but every time I try it does not end well. Guest guest
Quaffing aloe juice is very helpful on the rare occasion that I get heartburn. Guest guest
One easy way to determine if your problem is excess alkalinity or acid, is to get some pH test strips from your pharmacy or health food store. Test your saliva and urine while you are having a flare up of heartburn. If you are acidic, drink a little baking soda. If too alkaline, a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. I can't imagine why you would go buy a bottle of commercial salad dressing, when you can so easily buzz up your own in the Vitamix? Much less chemical burden to do it yourself. Keeping a food journal would also help you pinpoint when you are having heartburn-often, reactions to things are delayed by up to three days. A journal would probably be very enlightening.
