Guest guest
Hello everyone...I have not written much lately but have been reading. Life seems so hetic...but we only have 16 more days of school left. And, then my son and I are off for the summer. Only thing is I have to try and stay busy and not get depressed. I have some good news to report...I took my son back to the Psychiatrist and they asked if I would try Geodon with him. I did and wow! what a difference...it has taken a lot of the edge off of him...he is less argumentive and we have no problem with him going to sleep. We give him the pill around 5 pm and by 8 pm he is tired and he tends to go to sleep now between 8 and 9 pm. He is getting a better night's rest and thus waking up in a better mood...not so cranky! He actually did his homework w/o a fuss on 2 occassions. He nows good night, I love you mom, I love you dad.... Now I am not saying he is totally changed...but it has made a big difference in him. The other good news is he will be confirmed next Sunday with the other kids....he and his sponsor (my girlfriend's husband) will walk up the center aisle with us behind him ....along with all the other kids...I am so proud of him.... He also played in his band concert and did very well...didn't even wear his hooded this time! Ha Ha! I had a transition meeting with the school...he is going in the Jr. High (8th and 9th graders). I am a little worried...as he has been in his school since 1st grade. And, they say this school is very strict...I met with the Spec. Ed. Supervisor, Asst. Principal and a teacher....the teacher was a little concerned with the fact that in his IEP it states he has 4 10min. breaks during the day for sensory...but he never takes them....she said she was worried he would abuse it and walk around the school. I told her I wanted it to stay in his IEP...he doesn't do it ...but I want him to know he can take a break if he feels he needs to ...I told her he is not the type to take advantage or abuse this. She was all worried about him losing academic time! And, then she said we make up tests they have to stay after school to do it...again...they don't want the kids losing academic time...omg they are so worried yet the kids are not learning like we did!!! What gives? I think the kids are less educated than we were... Then I brought up the fact that he has to take the early bus. I don't want him taking an academic class for the last period...well it turns out the whole 8th grade has math at the end of the day....and they said oh he'll only lose 15 min. of class....and he can take some of the work home with him...I don't think they realized what they are saying....I guess it is convient for him to loss academic time when it is beneficial for them. Little do they know that I know ...what they are doing by having him leave early is illegal and against IDEA. On wrightlaw...I read that by taking the kids out early they are discriminating against special needs kids...and in Virginia a school district group of parents fought this...they were taping the buses leaving early when the school found out and had all the buses come back to school....but they then made the kids sit on the buses for 1/2 hour. They were going to tape them again the next day but decided against it because they didnt want their kids sitting in the hot buses for 1/2 hour. So, I am going to wait and see what happens next year ...if I need to I will make a big stink about him having to leave early. The other thing that happened at the meeting was that the asst. Principal took me into her office and basically told me the teachers were all nervous because I copy a lot of my emal to the Asst. Administrator of Spec. Ed. She said she would prefer I cc her. Well, she caught me off guard, and I should have said...the teachers have nothing to worry about as long as they follow his IEP. Believe me...I won't stop cc the Asst. Admin of Spe.Ed.....I am my son's advocator and if I feel she needs to know I will copy her too! What a joke! And, I work in this district.....
