Guest guest
DS, 23, got his first weekend pass home after a month away at JobCorps. We were afraid come Sunday afternoon, he would be reluctant to go back, but even though a little difficulty in the transition, he wanted to return. For him (and us) this has been wonderful. Every thing he does is pretty structured with lots of opportunity for rewards built in. He has room inspection and that can earn him special priviledges, like going to the front of the cafeteria line and paycheck line. He does really well with this there anyway...of course he never did well at HOME with this type of system! After sampling all of the different vocational choices has decided on culinary. He also works well in a " team " type situation and that's what their culinary dept is like...they worked hard on " recruiting " him to their area and that, of course, was wonderful that somebody " wanted " him! They have also, so far, repsonded quickly to social problems. His first set of roommates had one guy with attitude problem and aggression and they immediately moved DS out into another room. They seem to have very structured, regular intervals that they all get together in small groups and discuss problems. I am just so relieved for him...and have to confess that I didn't give it more than a 10% chance of success. So, a one month mark is fantastic in my expectations.
