Guest guest
Hi, I am new to your group. Wow, I wish I had had online support years ago!!! Parents need to feel supported and understood through these challenging years. I was seeking information in your archived messages and was sadly amazed there was nothing on the book; " Guiding Your Gifted Child " nor Tolan. http://www.stephanietolan.com/ 15 years ago, when my amazing son was just one year old, I KNEW I was in for a wild ride. This book and more specifically the " open letter " , at the end of the book, from Ms. Tolan helped me keep an open mind about the educational choices. He began to read at 2, 6th grade level by 5 years old with a photographic memory, yet wouldn't potty train nor get through a day with out a " melt down " . He didn't want to use a public restroom until age 8 and then only if it smelled neutral...He is VERY sensitive to smells even now. I had been an elementary school teacher before my son's birth, but I chose to stay home and get him through the roughest years one-on-one at home. He is now a part time high schooler and taking classes at our local junior college toward and engineering degree. I am sharing this to give the mothers of toddlers hope and a chance to look into alternatives. Explore the options is my moto. One option to gain an overview would be to join any homeschooling Group and use their search box for aspergers and/or autism. M.
