I'd read that drama was a good class for Aspies to take, and since our

school doesn't have any special ed appropriate for a compliant

(follows rules) honors student to held with Asperger's, we talked him

into trying it. He decided to try out for the school musical and got

the part of Schroeder in " You're A Good Man Charlie Brown " . We've

seen improvement in his tolerance to loud music (walks away then comes

back into room and doesn't put his hands to his ears nearly as much)

and talking with people. We also have him in a support group of teen

boys that meets every other week.

My 14yo aspie is also taking theater at school for the second year.

In his case, he picked it out on his own because he wanted to do this

soliloquy that they do in 7th grade and because it is taught by a

cool, male teacher. Our school district doesn't provide much for

aspies without LDs either, so we've (and the school) have also found

some other " normal " classes that are also good for aspies, like teen

leadership and life management, for example. He wanted to take teen

leadership, but I'm not sure how life management will go--it is all

things he hates doing! These last two classes are this year. The

more he takes these things, the more flexible and adventuresome he

gets. He still won't try out for anything in theater outside of class

because he says he's too shy for that, but I hope he will eventually.

Hi, this is an interesting topic. our therapist also told me to get my son into Drama that it's good for our kids. They have a Drama group at our college and my son also started Drama class and loves it !. He is doing well. I also feel the more things he gets into now, the better he will progress. I wish our school did a life skills class but I haven't heard of any. if so, I would also have him attend that.
