Guest guest
Melody. Since I work in a school and am a paraprofessional ...I can see why....we have a student who is HFA and she has a para (not me though). I have been with her many a time when her aide is out... There are so many things that stress this student out...like... Students not behaving and acting out Wanting to solve things her way or write what she wants to write working on the computer noisy lunch room Tests Making mistakes and So much more!!! like worrying about getting the bus or missing the bus change in routine change in teacher (subs) Now on top of that...you put the end of the year... no more same routine, no more school, the kids won't be there and the teacher will be different next year. The kids are so excited ...they are not behaving...kids acting wild and noisey...assemblies...parties...etc. etc. Then there is the summer...excited but anxious ..no routine...etc. etc. And then most of all next year ...New school???? New teachers???? Different schedule...etc. etc. etc. And, there could be littel worries on top of all these worries...is someone teasing her, making fun of her ....etc. etc. I stress out just thinking about it. Our kids don't know how to handle all there worries...our student has been melting down and crying every day....we have to take her out of class and go for a walk. Often we can't go back to class and end up in the library. She has gotten much worse this year. Maybe she is worrying about senior year and the future. So when stressed ...they act out, get aggressive ...etc. you have to try and teach her about these feelings...she may not even be aware that is what she is feeling...then you need to teach her or have someone at school work with her on what to do 1. breathing techniques 2. Counting backwards 3. Taking a walk 4 Go to case manager or guidance counselor 5. Stress ball 6. Fidget item 7. Selt talk I am sure there are more....but we usually take out student for a long walk...talk about the stressor and reassure her...if she can't calm down...we go to the library so she can read or pick up a new book and get her mind off of it. jan Janice Rushen "I will try to be open to all avenues of wisdom and hope" From: Melody <mkalomiris@...>Subject: ( ) Re: My Son Date: Tuesday, June 9, 2009, 6:20 PM jan- i think btw means "by the way".my daughter's stress has been amped up too. i am wondering if these reasons you list are the reason. there is alot of excitement and good times, since she is graduating from 6th grade and all the hoopla that is bringing. she is happy to know that she has little that she HAS to do this summer, so i don't know, i don't get while she is so short tempered and stressed. i guess i am still learning what makes her tick.melody> > > >> > > > My Son is seven years old and is a very bright funny all round good kid> > > > but we are having the promblem at School of running away when angry and fighting with the other children in his class when mad insted of just walking away or using his words like we have been telling him since the start of the school year> > > > With only nine days left we been getting notes everyday and we Cleaned out his room of toys and made go to bed early nothing is working> > > > anyone have any ideas what works for them> > > >> > >> >>
