Guest guest
I am pretty new to this group. I have a son 20 years old with AS. We always knew something was not quite right and I fought to no avail with the schools all his academic life. Finally in September I found someone to test and diagnose him. I would like to know what is out there to help him and me. I need to know what to do with a high functioning individual whom doesnt have a job or license. He was so turned off to school during his years there that he wont even consider doing that. I am frustrated and tired. I have bought and read books but that is not enough. I am not equipped and could use any help.
Guest guest
What is he interested in? Is there any one thing that might act as a springboard to getting him work? Are there any vocational or internship type programs in your area that he might do? Can he do the driving thing, or not able? Give us on the list some more information and we can provide some other ideas. Our son is 24, and school was very difficult too. The last two years of high school he had to attend public school. He had been at a private school for kids with LD, and doing well, but then they dropped the high school. His scores plummeted in public school and it was little more than baby sitting him. After he got out, he worked in a warehouse that hires people with all kinds of disabilities, but it was very hard physical work for very little pay. And he was higher functioning than almost all of the other employees. Eighteen months ago, he was accepted into JobCorps and that has been a good experience for him, no a GREAT experience. He got training in culinary arts and a GED and is currently looking for a job. Would your son be interested in Job Corps? Sue in Tn > > I am pretty new to this group.
