Guest guest
Hi all, I have tried to get tested because I think she has a CAPD. She just started 2nd-grade. But she has been in speech since she was 22 months old. She's been at the school since she was 4. I've been told that it would be pointless to have her tested because she doesn't show any problems academically. However, yesterday she failed to bring home her word list for her homework last night. I put a note in the agenda regarding the fact that she forgot the words. The teacher wrote back and said that she was reminded several times. So that makes me believe that maybe she might need more assistance because of a possible exectutive function disorder problem. Okay, she's only in 2nd-grade. Do you think there could be enough " evidence " to prove that she does need additional help other than speech. If they find that she has NO problems (yet), what happens in the future. Can I have her re-tested next year or any year following that if they discover she's having more difficulties? Put it this way. My 22 month old understands and follows directions far better than does because doesn't understand me half the time and if I give her a direction like, " Look in the kitchen on the counter " , she has gone to the piano to look for it. That's the kind of thing she does. She can't " hear " or recognize vowel sounds well. And following directions are difficult. She also has poor sentence structure in speech. She puts the words in the wrong sequence at times, and she uses the wrong words at times. Still doesn't use the W questions (who, what, when, why, where) correctly either. So, could I have her tested next year again if she isn't found eligible? Thanks, Melinda
