Guest guest
There seems to be a lot of debate on what exactly causes AS and other issues. I have read about the possible causes and I have yet to run a cross one that really fits beyond the standard its just a genetic defect. However I cant over look the problems that had form the beginnings of his life. Lets start at the very beggining. We both were a fairly normal pair of teens, living life to the fullest just after graduation. nothing really major to report really but the pregnancy did not go well. In the beginning of the second trimester the dr was a tad concerned about the amniotic fluid Index. At that point the AFI for our son should have been between 13-19 and his was a very dry 6.8. Now I'm no dr so i have no idea what the AFI really measures. All i know is by the 6th month the AFI should be 20-27 and his was a weak 10-11 at best. On his ultrasounds there was almost no space for the pool little guy in there cause there was no fluid in there with him. He was taken C-section on month early. This did not go as well as planned. The small town hospital did a few things right and wrong at the same time, he was placed in a O2 tent after they noted that his O2 saturations levels were hovering dangerously low. about 60-65%. They assumed he was premy and his lungs were just not developed. Which is a valid assumption I guess. They waited 24 hours and flew him to OHSU. Once there they diagnosed his lungs as perfectly healthy just full of fluid that was easily extracted with a suction device. Had the other hospital done an X-ray they would have seen this, however the dr in our hometown decided the risk of exposing our son to the old x-ray machine they had vs any diagnosis it would reveal was to great a risk to take. He spent a week in OHSU to be 100% sure he was healthy and he was, they told us that he may have suffered brain damage due to the lack of O2 for the first 36 hours. But thats just that part of it. I keep reading that there is the possibility that vaccinations can cause these types of problems. This scares me since had to have his first series of shots 3 TIMES!!!!! He was born under baby Meeks (my wifes maiden name since we were not married at the time) hes second shots were done after they transfered him to OHSU under his given name of Meeks. A 3rd time there were given when he was 1 and we took him in and they said there was no record of him ever having them. The problem was by then we were married but we had his names legally changed to Spencer and the record did not get changed. Now that has been established and only now are his medical records being fixed. Up till 3 months ago Spencer existed and had a DOB but no official record of his birth under that name lol. But now i see so many sources that could have caused this problem and I still know so little about it.
