Guest guest
I didn't get in on the original question, but from some of the follow-up conversation, I gather that the original question was about the safety of MRIs with Contrast. 2 pieces of info which may be helpful. There has been some concern with allergic reactions to gadolinium-containing contrast injections in patients with severe chronic kidney disease, and I know our internist preferred that my husband avoid it, if possible, because of some elevated kidney function tests. However I recently came across a study conducted by researchers at the Univ. of Michigan Health Systems in Ann Arbor saying that allergic-like reactions are extremely rare and when they do occur, most are mild, and the study said they could be safely used in patients with normal or only mildly impaired renal function. (In their study of more than 78,000 tests, the risk of allergic-like reaction was 0.07% and no fatal reactions occurred ( R. Dillman, MD, lead author). Moreover I also came across a piece in Feb 19, 2008 ls of Internal Medicine saying that taking NAC (N-acetylcysteine) before the test can prevent the serious kidney damage that can be caused by the iodine containing "dyes" which doctors use to enhance the qualify of such scans (CT, angiogram, or other) Hope this is helpful.Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Guest guest
i'm told that those of us who are allergic to iodine, shell fish, etc., should not get these tests with contrast dyes. marshiris@... Guest guest
Yep, and your CT SCAN doctors should KNOW that too. MRI's use Gadolinium, a Magnetic, not Iodine based, contrast Agent. It's not a Dye Have we Exhausted the MRI issues yet so we can get back to LDN? Re: [low dose naltrexone] Concerning MRIs w/Contrast i'm told that those of us who are allergic to iodine, shell fish, etc., should not get these tests with contrast dyes. marshiris@...
