I am on 5mg of prednisone for RA and want to know if I have to wean off prednisone before I start LDN. I know I have to wean off the prednisone but just am not sure if I can do both at the same time. Thanks! Dawn

You are able to take LDN with steroids but the LDN might not work as well. For me it seemed like the side effects from the steroids got worse when I took LDN with the steroids so I stopped the LDN until I was off of the steroids and then didn't go back to the steroids.Jefflow dose naltrexone From: spenmae@...Date: Tue, 8 Apr 2008 05:42:17 -0700Subject: [low dose naltrexone] Wean off prednisone before starting LDN?

Hi Dawn,

I started taking LDN when I was down to 5mg of prednisone. Taking that

small a dose and LDN at the same time was only benefiting me. I started

feeling a lot better just a few days after starting the LDN. Then after

a week on both, I cut the prednisone.

From what I've heared, you can take LDN with prednisone-doses from 10

mg and down.

Good luck!

Mari,

Do you have SLE - is that why you've been on the prednisone, and if so, how long

have

you been taking it? Thanks -

Hi Mari, I am taking prednisone for RA but have read great things about LDN working wonders for RA. My Rheumatologist refused to put me on it so my primary care physician is going to give it a try. The prednisone has turned me into a different person mentally and physically even at such a small dose. Dawn __________________________________________________

Hi Dawn,

Prior to beginning LDN just over a month ago I weaned off the pred

and MTX. So when I took my first LDN dose I hadn't had DMARD or

steroid at all for 2 wks.

I started at 1.5mg and will increase to 3mg this week. I keep

Ketoprofen (nsaid) and Darvocet on hand because the symptoms aren't

totally arrested - but I hope the progress will be. I also take DLPA,

omega 3s, ALA, folic acid, and a multi ... and follow an anti-

inflammatory diet.

After about a week on LDN I experienced some sleep disturbance that

has since passed. I now sleep better than I have in a long time. I

notice I have less morning stiffness, less fatigue, and a general

feeling of wellbeing. Later this month I will begin AP ... this is a

totally different approach to RA from anything I've done in the past

12 yrs. I am cautiously optimistic.

I know of 2 other women that started LDN about the same time I did

and they report about the same changes as me (on a different forum).

Good luck to you!

Jacque
