Hi Mark,

Nice to see you over here! I have Graves' and have been slightly hypo

since stopping PTU in 2005 (though I believe I was mostly hypo anyway

and only went hyper from taking kelp). Before starting LDN my thyroid

antibodies were TSI 107 ( " normal " less than 125), TBII 25 ( " normal "

less than 16) and TPO 320 ( " normal " less than 30). I also had remnants

of thyroid eye disease and bad eczema on my palms.

I'm taking a very low dose of LDN and also taking it in the morning,

which many feel is not the best timing (I don't sleep well anyway and

couldn't handle the sleep distrubances, though many other folks adapt

quickly). I'm currently taking 1.5 mg every other day and may increase

to 3.0 every ither day.

LDN quickly raised my thyroid levels so that where I was using 60 mcg

T4 and 10 mcg T3 to stay at midrange, now I'm only taking 25 mcg T4.

I'm probably not quite up to midrange on the 25mcg, but I'm converting

T4 to T3 better and feeling symptom free. The LDN also improved my eye

symptoms, improved my arthritis symptoms, and completely cured the

eczema. I'll get thyroid antibody tests in a few months to compare.

You've probably heard that some of us thyroid folks have set up a forum

for thyroid autoimmunity plus LDN and other alternatives, which Elaine

contributes to, AHSTA.com. Of course, that forum is new and this

group has many more years of experience with LDN.

Best wishes,

B.

well as Fibro which seems to go hand in hand with thyroid

problems......can you all tell me more about how LDN helps with

thyroid???

Also what is PTU???

Hi,

From what we're learning, LDN helps all types of autoimmune problems

and therefore could help autoimmune hypothyroidism. Some of us have

found that it raises thyroid levels and causes us to need less

thyroid replacement, which means careful monitoring and starting at a

low dose of LDN (1.5 mg).

It's currently in clinical trials for fibromyalgia, which also can be

helped by insuring both your FT4 and FT3 thyroid levels are high

enough in the normal range for your body.

PTU is an antithyroid med used to control hyperthyoidism.

Best wishes,

B.

Well done Debbie for getting your script. Good idea to start low when you have

thyroid issues but please take it at NIGHT. Between 9p.m and 3am - you dont

have to be going to sleep during that time so it has nothing to do with that.

Very very few people take it during the day and it`s considered maybe a last

resort rather than not take it at all. If you have trouble sleeping (and you

may not) then take a sleep aid of some kind for awhile. Give it a good long

trial - like months and months if you can, to make sure you get the full

benefit.

Good luck and congratuations!
