Hi Janet,

You didn't say if you have a behavioral therapist or where you live. There is

help for this. It is just hard finding it sometimes. I think the best help is

a combination of the meds and therapy. It sounds like both your children need

help. Please write back and tell us where you live. There may be someone on

the list in your area that can recommend someone. You might also want to look

up the ocd foundation site and see if there is a doctor or therapist in your

area that they recommend.

I hope you find some help soon. I wish I could be of more help. I can say that

probably all of us have been where you are right now, with the frustrations.

Please know that it doesn't have to always be this way, things can get better!

And remember to find some time for yourself. It is so important, in order to

keep fighting this. And that's what all of us parents do daily, battle the ocd!

Take Care,

in PA

Hi Janet, It sounds like your daughter is having a

rough go of it right now. I hope you can get the help

you need. Have you accessed the " ask the experts " ? It

is on the OCF web page under resources.

(www.ocfoundation.org) Also a good one for teens is

Dr. Jim Hatton's site at www.angelfire.com/il/TeenOCD

I have a 15y/o son who gets agitated at times over our

daughter singing, us talking, or a big one listening

to " some " music. There have been times that he has

really gotten out of control. He shouts and swears,

hits the walls, and slams doors. We have been working

on behavior, and trying to tackle the OCD. He also is

depressed. Things arn't too bad here right now. He is

able to attend school. In 6th grade he was absent more

than present. He gets stressed easily. He has a wrist

flicking tic, that accompany's certain obsessions. I

will tell you that this list has been a great find for

me. The support and caring has helped. Just knowing

that others are going through similar experiences!

There has been excellent adviced from Dr. Tamar

Chansky, and other parents who have tackled the worst

of it. Tkae care and let us know how things are going!

Patti, Thank You for given me hope that some day e a will wear

underpants!! What a day that will be , I think we'll have a party. I took

e to birthday party last night at M.D. (e age 6 doesn't wear

underpants or shorts. Just a dress and clogs) well at the party when she was

playing ,3 times I could see everything .So when we got home I told her .I

said she would have to wear something under her dress if she wanted to go to

any more parties .She told me she didn't like the crotch. We tried a pair of

knit slacks on inside out for 1 min. she held the pants away from her crotch

for the whole min.Than to top of my night she told me the skirt I was making

for her ,wasn't going to work because her BRAIN told her!!! Love Beth in IN.

Janet,

My daughter is 11 1/2 and she just started wearing underpants this year.

Most of her life she wore spandex shorts under everything.

Then this year she just started, said Mom I need some underwear.

I only bought 3 pair at first because I had invested a small fortune already

in different styles, materials, etc. Finally I just figured whats the big

deal and let her be. I think she started this year after she learned about

periods. She is getting ready she said :)

She still wont wear jeans because she says they make her feel weird in her

crotch. But its hard because she wants to wear the like the other girls.

Recently we cut the crotch out of a pair I bought her. She wears those

around the house just to start getting used to the overall feel.

The next pair we will try to leave the crotch in.

Little by little she is developing a wardrobe. When we shop I have her sit

in the clothes, walk around do cartwheels whatever. And then we buy it one

size larger for comforts sake.

Dear Beth,

When Molly was e's age I was in similar circumstances. Of course she

had not been diagnosed so my patience and understanding were somewhat

challenged.

However, because she wore a jumper to school I quickly realized she had to

wear SOMETHING under it. I took her to the mall, and we went into a

really neat athletic shop. Then I found a sales girl who was good looking

and had her show Molly the spandex. Lightweight cotton ones.

It worked. Molly thought she was sooooo cool. And I got to cover her

crotch.

Is there something or someone that e likes. An athlete, rock star,

nickelodeon person type. Maybe you could start that way. I found with

Molly that she was much more responsive to the salesgirl then to me. After

all I am the mommy, what do I know?

You might also try boxers. They make such fun ones now. And they come in

many materials. Maybe satin with smiley faces?

Good luck

Where is the rash? I've had a rash on my shins for years, and am finally getting

rid of it with CALAMINE LOTION, can you believe that? But it has zinc oxide, and

bentonite. There are more expensive versions with Zinc Acetate, called CalaDryl

and CalaGel. They dry clear, whereas the Calamine dries that chalky opaque pink.

I " ve been alternating the clear with the pink, using the pink at night, and the

clear in the daytime.

The rash (red itchy welts) started on my inner thighs, then my legs

feet, also on my arms, chest , back and sometimes on my face, it

fades as new ones appear. I'm going to try a yeast free diet and see

if it helps any...ugh! Thanks for responding.

It's so tricky to know whether the diet is working because you don't know if

you feel bad because you're not treating it properly, or because of yeast

die-off. How do you know if it's working? I guess I still have this fear

that it's not a yeast problem at all and I am wasting my time.

I'll just add my 2 cents to the great advice you've already

received. First and foremost, you're not eating enough, and you're

not really eating the right things.

>

> Breakfast: 1/2 c Fiber One cereal

> 3/4 c skim milk

The cereal is okay, although oatmeal would be a better choice (less

processed). Up your portion to 1 c. cereal and have it with 3/4 c.

cottage cheese instead (has much more protein than the milk with a

fraction of the sugar)

>

> Snack: small Dannon yogurt (60 cals/8 carbs)

> 1 slice of turkey breast

More food! Eat 6-8 of s-f lite yogurt if you want, but have

substantial protein, like egg whites, prot. powder, chicken/fish,

etc. One slice of turkey??? That's a measly amount.

> Lunch: small can of tuna (70 cals)

> apple

This is fine, but add some raw cut-up veggies.

>

>

Need a carb and more protein. Add more turkey and stuff it inside a

whole wheat pita w/ veggies.

> Dinner: portion of fish or chicken

> broccoli or cauliflower

Need a carb. Veggies are great, but they don't count as carbs. Serve

this over brown rice or barley.

>

> Snack: smoothie (made with frozen berries, skim milk, Splenda)

>

Yikes, where is the protein? Make a protein shake with frozen

berries and a bit of skim milk if you want, but remember that milk

has a lot of sugar.

Also, why are you doing 40 m./4 days a week. That seems excessive.

You need to do HIIT 3 times a week; are you doing that?

Hey Hawaiian (don't know what else to call you since you didn't sign

your post),

It would help if we knew what your recipe is in order to figure out

why your soap is going rancid so quickly. A well made bar of castile

soap shouldn't do that. What superfat are you using?

Also, " castile " has a variety of definitions these days. Some say it

must be 100% olive oil. Some say it must be 60% olive oil. Others say

it just means 100% vegetable oils. If you belong to one of the last 2

groups, I have heard rice bran oil is a good substitute although I

have never tried it, myself.

A little more info would help you get better, more informed answers.

You can reply to me off-list also.

Pami

ps...Just curious...how long have you been making soap?

when you say you are using Vitamin E are you using

T-50 OR do you mean vitamin E in capsules?

and technically, castile soap is 100% olive oil - but

you could try using

something with a longer shelf life but not call the

soap castile.

also, I am guessing it must be mad hot with no AC -

are you adding anything else to the soap, like any

botanicals?

Thank you for takin the time to answer me. I used 69% olive and 40% lard

Using 100% olive oil is so very expensive here.. Everything has to be

shipped to the islands and that adds extra charges.... What other oils have

you

tried that work well with olive in a high humidity area?

Thanks for your time the Hawaiian

Hi My sister was finding LDN helpful but unfortunately she experienced increase in numbness and weakness and was admitted to hospital for steroid/Immunoglobin treatment. She wants to get back to LDN, following are the questions we are strugelling with and will deeply appreciate any help

1) How soon one should restart LDN post treatment (i.e how much time one should wait for the effect of the steroid/Immunoglobin to fade)

2) Should one start right away from 3/4.5 mg or from 1.5 mg and gradually move up Egarly waiting for help. Personal experience of people will be of immense help. Regards,Sonu India Planning marriage in 2008!

Sonu,

Can't help on qu 1 as I don't have MS and haven't had steroids, but

whenever she does start I'd certainly aim to start straight back on

whatever dose she was on before, unless she had problems working up to that.

I'm not sure whether you previously enquired on here about her numbness

and weakness, but from what I know of what many people with MS find

happens with LDN from four and a half years of reading on here I am a

little concerned that maybe your sister was experiencing the often

experienced working through old symptoms as part of the LDN recovery

process and that going on steroids/immunoglobin was effectively shooting

her healing process in the foot. Hopefully it wasn't just that but she

may find she experiences the same thing again this time???

She should restart LDN immediately. There's no need to wait.

The dosage she restarts on is up to her, but she can go back to what

she was on before the steroids right away. The optimal adult dosage

is 4.5mgs.
