Guest guest
Hi , I wonder if he's got gluten intolerance. Often those individuals self-limit to gluten-containing foods. Might be worth considering the gluten-free (GF) diet and/or digestive enzymes. Is he drinking? If not, you've got to figure out a way to hydrate him, particularly in the hot weather. By " those nutrition drinks " do you mean things like pedialyte or Pediasure? Some of the products marketed at nutrion drinks are not really nutritious. S S my 18 mth old doesnt appear to have autism but he is exhibiting a lot of eating difficulties like my 3 yo did. Up until the past few days, he would eat a very narrowed selection of food like waffles, cereal, frenh fries. He hasnt wanted to eat for the past few days. He turns away from it and shakes his head.Ive gotten him those nutrition drinks and he wont drink it, ive tried tricking him by mixing baby food in his sippy cup but as soon as he realizes its not what he wants he throws it on the floor. i feel like my babyis starving buthe just doesnt want to eat. Its almost as if he doesnt have the hunger impulse because he has gone thru the day without fussing. The doc thinks he fine but what does she know, shes already on my sh_t list, she says he will eat when hes ready, HE HASNT EATEN FOR TWO DAYS!! I dont know what to do, he seems fine otherwise but im concerned with this. He has no fever and is as happy as he can be until i try to feed him. _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! Guest guest
Hi , I have gone through this myself with both of my OCD kids. At one time they were both very much underweight. I don't remember if you said she was in therapy or on meds yet?! If she isn't, you will most likely have to do the therapy and possibly consider meds. In the meantime, keep doing what you are doing with the carnation instant breakfast drinks. You can try the ensure drinks and puddings also. She IS drinking, so that is good! Keep encouraging small snacks frequently, and constantly remind her that she CAN eat, that the OCD is telling her she can't, and she can't listen to it!! My ds(6) went through this horrible thing last year, where he thought there was glass and poison in his food. It was a nightmare!!!!!!!! He was so underweight! I know there are others on here who have gone through this also! Let us know how you make out after your appointment. Hugs Judy

Guest guest
She is not yet in therapy. I have a consultation appointment on Tuesday to meet alone with the therapist and then they will decide on how to treat but they prefer to meet with the parents alone at first. On a positive note, she ate four bites of toast and two bites of egg for breakfast along with two sippy cups of milk with Carnation Instant Breakfast. I was pleased with that and will try to get her to eat a late morning snack too. I am doing the sippy cups so that she does not actually see the drink. I am afraid if she looks at it then she may not drink it. She is looking forward to sledriding with her cousins this afternoon and I told her she needs to eat to have good energy to sled ride so hopefully she will eat a good snack too. > > Hi , > I have gone through this myself with both of my OCD kids. Guest guest
, That's great that she is eating! You can always say something like, " Okay, before sledding, you need to eat " this " and than you can go " I usd to do that with my ds. I would tell him that we would play " this or that " after he had some crackers, or whatever " . It's so scary when they won't eat, but at least she is drinking! I wish you luck! Hang in there! Guest guest
, my then 12 year old dd went through a phase and ended up in the hospital. We didn't know she had OCD at the time and thought it was purely an eating disorder. Now that we are informed, we have tools to use when she doesn't want to eat a particular food. We feel like we are constantly using erp on her because if we let her avoid a particular food once, then it just builds. We have to be watching her all the time as she is 13 1/2 now and should be at a place where you can trust your child to eat when they are hungry. She eats 3 meals and 3 snacks per day, everyday, but now the challenge is to mix it up and not always eat at the same 6 times everyday. But as long as the food and the activities are challenged, she seems to do well. It is when we get into a rut that she challenges and wants to go back to what is safe. CIB (carnation instant breakfast) are a great choice for getting those calories in. Mix a vanilla with orange juice and ice and blend. It is like an orange julius. Good luck. Re: not eating : Food and reluctance to trust it is a huge issue with OCDers. My son also stopped trusting food. Therapy (CBT/ERP) will help you deal with this. Hang in there! > > Hi , > I have gone through this myself with both of my OCD kids. Guest guest
Same here, my 15yr old still does not eat well. She was hospitalized at UCLA in Fall of '06. She developed scrupulousity(fasting) and bizarre ideas about eating. I think her aspergers spectrum made it esp absolutist and rigid. She had life threatening weight loss quickly due to underweight to begin with. To , keep her eating and don't let anyone tell you to back-ff or not interfere, or not be " food police " , this approach often advised to parents dealing with anorexia, and is misguided. nancy grace > > > > Hi , > > I have gone through this myself with both of my OCD kids. Guest guest
My son (11) did this 3 years ago for 3 weeks due to people poisoning his food. Then he just gave it up. He started with it again last week after going out to a resturaunt with friends who (after eating the meal) stated the place looked like a place you could get food poisoning- He was convinced if he ate he would get food poisoning and stoped eating for 3 days then started again, but keeps mentioning the place that he was eating and that we should not go there. He also went through a spitting thing several years ago after eating some cake he did not like the taste of and spit for several months. Then he just stopped. I think a lot of the not eating ones are somewhat transient, (at least for us)but clearly you need to hit it hard with CBT/ERP and consider meds- (the episode 3 years ago for 3 weeks is what finally made us go on meds after fighting it for 5 years. Good luck and keep up the good work. It is a heartbreaking disease. I also use " bribes " for ERP- Like you can sled after you eat etc. TV/wii is a huge motivator for us. He has to earn all his screen time with CBT/ERP

Guest guest
Good morning,My son hardly ate anything for a longggggg time! He is still very finicky. He had/has oral tactile defensiveness which basically means he has problems with textures. He's expanding his menu though it's still a struggle and he is 4. Preschool actually helped him bc the teacher required that he took a bite. I put extremely small amounts on his plate of whatever we are eating with something he likes. He eats pancakes so I sneak things like pureed pumpkin into the batter. We stopped giving him pediasure bc it wasn't helping him explore other options. He actually had the OT work with him on tasting different foods. The first step is to put it in your mouth chew and spit it out. Yes I know it is all completely ridiculous:) but it helped! We try not to have food wars but he has to eat a bite of whatever it is. Once he has the initial bite he usually will eat the rest. He's also a grazer. We do allow him to stand up and eat too. Yah he was and sometimes still is a breathitarian:) It can be frustrating. If I pack a lunch I pack a normal one. At school he's better bc he is with a bunch of other kids and I guess when in Rome do as the Romans do Good luck! Just think how happy you will be when eating is no longer an issue! Guest guest
We work w our speech therapist and she has helped w/isaiahs feeding/oral/texture issues. She uses a Z Vibe (an elec toothbrush would work too) to stimulate his gums, cheeks and tounge. Then we try new foods. We try to get him to start off by kissing the new food to the count of three. Sometimes w/the food on his lips to taste he decides he likes it and may take a bite. Something to try at least! She does not have any issues during the day, and only refluxes once to twice through the night. Where as she used to reflux 5-15 times a day. We could put anything else in front of her, and she wouldn't eat it. Our pediatrician told us it was a phase, and that she'd grow out of it in about a month.Almost a year and half later, and she's pretty much the same way. She's got a very narrow pallet. She *refused* to try anything new. Even stuff you'd say " what kid wouldn't eat that? " She won't eat watermelon, or hot dogs. There's almost nothing that she eats. She doesn't want any kind of spread (ketchup, or ranch dressing). They encouraged me to " put it on her plate - eventually she'll eat it " , but after six months of putting things on her plate day-in/day-out, and her not eating them, I've given up.I worry when we send her to preschool that they're concerned about how " poorly " I pack her lunch, because I only send a couple of crackers and a slice of cheese. But, I kid you not - she doesn't even eat that. (I know that's her typical lunch, because that's all she eats when she's home, too, and she's home 5 out of 7 days). So, don't feel bad. There are days when just picks at a couple of things, and doesn't eat at all. I've done enough reading online and talking to doctors to know that Addie will eat when she wants to and feels like she needs to (i.e., she won't starve).Father to , 3 years old, 2nd cast, 57* to 18*San DiegoOn Sat, Jul 2, 2011 at 6:34 PM, Medlin <amanda.medlin@...> wrote: Hey everyone---Logan has decided to become a breatharian. Guest guest
Congrats on lil Avery & Logan  ~and~  happy to hear that Rylee’s back looks great!HRH From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of Krista BenkoSent: Sunday, July 03, 2011 5:49 AMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: not eating Hey ! Rylee is the same way about eating. We think it'sjust too much pressure on her belly. As long as she's taking in a little and still goes to the bathroom, I'm happy! Her back looks great also! I try to give her little things through out the day, instead of just three meals a day. And we try to munch on a lot of fruits and veggies. Glad to here Logan is doing good! Maybe we will see you next time we are at the hospital. We will have two additions to our family if you see us! I had twins on June 13th! A boy and a girl. We named the girl Avery and the boy Logan! Well take care! Krista From: Medlin <amanda.medlin@...>infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Sat, July 2, 2011 9:34:38 PMSubject: not eating Hey everyone---Logan has decided to become a breatharian. She uses a Z Vibe (an elec toothbrush would work too) to stimulate his gums, cheeks and tounge. Then we try new foods. We try to get him to start off by kissing the new food to the count of three. Sometimes w/the food on his lips to taste he decides he likes it and may take a bite.Something to try at least!Tame Olson <dazies2001@...> wrote:>Good morning,>My son hardly ate anything for a longggggg time! Yah he was and sometimes still is> a breathitarian:) It can be frustrating. If I pack a lunch I pack a normal one. At school he's better bc he is with a bunch of other kids and I guess when in Rome do as the Romans do Good luck! Just think how happy you will be when eating is no longer an issue! >Tame>>Sent from my iPhone>>On Jul 2, 2011, at 7:34 PM, Medlin <amanda.medlin@...> wrote:>>>>Hey everyone--->Logan has decided to become a breatharian. Guest guest
Super slender phenotype just like my girl…she still eats like a bird and she’s 13.5 yrs old. The pioneer of ET said that she would never be overweight.  Liv actually weighed 24 lbs from 1.5 yrs to 3 yrs old and I tried every calorie booster & everything to increase weight. Finally, just stopped worrying as she was thriving and not loosing weight….Hang in there.
