Guest guest
So sorry to hear that. How old is your son? I want to try the diet also but I know it will be hard to stay on track. I wish I had an answer for you. 2nd day on Diet, He's freaking out!!Help!! Today is our 2nd day being SCD. Yesterday was day #1 and he had off and on aggression like usual. Today is is 2nd full day being scd and I just picked him up from school and he was going ballistic!!! They said he was in OT and doing awesome and had an awesome day and out of nowhere he started getting really aggitated, and it just kept going and going, by the time I got there (10 minutes into the meltdown) he was hitting the lockers, trying to hit and pinch and scratch his teacher and I and he was hitting me so hard in the chest with his head he got a bloody nose. So there was blood everywhere and he's screaming from the top of his lungs and trying to hit everyone for about another 10 minutes after I got there. Am I doing the right thing? Is this die-off? Is this a common thing to see when going through withdrawal from carbs and sugar? Please help!!!!!!!!!! Rose

Guest guest
Hi Corina,   He's 6, but this is his second year in kindergarten. This diet is hard, but I've never gotten results so fast. Albeit, bad results, but results nonetheless. If this is die-off, which I suspect it to be, then I'm so in this!!! We never got die-off from yeast because he was always eating carbs and sugar, even though they were gfcf carbs and sugar that didn't really make the difference. I'll keep you posted on the results of how this diet is going for him and maybe that will give you some insight to see if you want to try it or not. Thanks for your reply!! Guest guest
My son also went to kinder for 2 years. He is now 7 and in first grade. His food choices are so limited, he eats pizza, toast, french fries, no fruit or veggies and no meat. I feel like he might starve himself before he eats those things. I make sure he drinks the V8 fusion for fruit and veggies and he takes brainchild vitamins, clo & NCD for chelating. I really need to get him on a better diet. Keep me posted. Guest guest
I have had problems with chronic candida, and when I am coming off carbs, I am not very pleasant to be around. In fact, I don't leave the house because I feel so crappy, and I feel like I would do just about anything to get a fix! Sounds like he could very well be going through a very bad die-off rxn. Activated charcoal helps with this as does methyl B and molybdenum. Good luck and stay with it! When I come out the other side of this rxn I feel so much more healthy and energetic and clear-headed. I hope your son has the same good results! > > My son also went to kinder for 2 years. He is now 7 and in first grade. Guest guest
Rose.. How are things going later on in the day. When we started SCD in august the 1st day went kind of smooth. The 2nd Day Was AWFUL.... I started this with my 2 boys one is 5 and the other just turned 3 and I am single.. The 5 year old was at his grandmas for the night and I got a call that he was dry heaving and that he wanted to come home. My 3 year old just woke up and was coughing and gagging himself. By the time came home both of them was throwing up and was shaking and lips were all pale. I was getting yelled at for putting them through this.. My only defense was.. I took food AWAY.. If not having it is putting their bodies through this.. WHAT is it doing with them eating it.. That was my ahh haa! moment. That die off even though the symptoms are bad.. and tough IT is so worth it. I just thought of it as a GUT WAR on bugs and we were kicking BUTT.. Literally.. Just wanted to share with you to believe and keep it up.. > > Today is our 2nd day being SCD. Yesterday was day #1 and he had off and on aggression like usual. Guest guest
THANKS TO ALL WHO COMMENTED. I really needed advice and encouragement to keep going. I think I will keep him home tomorrow and when he goes back to school next week I'll give his para professional some extra snacks to give him.  I'm so thankful for your replies. I know I need to brace myself for this month and work hard at not giving up which is what I've always done in the past because I keep thinking that I'm hurting him. But I'm starting to see that even though he may have been less autistic (more drugged up) when eating those harmful foods he was never going to recover until I stuck it out through this die off phase. I see now he NEVER would've recovered off of gfcf. The carbs and sugar would've kept feeding this problem. Thanks again, and keep replying if you like, I like reading them! Rose I'll keep you posted on his results through the coming weeks! ________________________________ From: Liz <elizabethsoliday@...> Sent: Thu, November 5, 2009 9:22:21 PM Subject: [ ] Re: 2nd day on Diet, He's freaking out!!Help!!  Lithium orotate in small doses could also help until the ups and downs are more leveled out. > > > > Yes, sounds like withdrawl! Guest guest
Hi there, My one child had it tough for about 3 weeks and the other a month and a half after starting SCD. But we changed more than that so I'm not sure what the reaction was from. We'd been GF/CF/SF for over a year and then went SCD/CF/YF plus very low sugar (honey, fruits) and phenols. All I can say is it does pass and it is worth it. Hang in there. We upped the magnesium, L-Theanine and GABA during the day to mellow them some. We've been SCD for a year and a half now. Guest guest
My son did fantastic on SCD. Yes he missed his food in the beginning and we had to force the cooked fruits on him but after two weeks he could follow direction. It was amazing. I don't remember him have much of a die-off with scd as we had gradually taken away pototoes and rice before we started (He had more of a withdrawal from going gf/cf at 3-years-old). We did scd when he was almost 4 and he is 10 now we have not done SCD in about 2 years but he is still limited in what he can eat. We started our 2nd round of AC chelation this morning and we are hoping he will not be so limited in the future. Take care! > > > > > > Yes, sounds like withdrawl! Yikes and a bad one at that! Guest guest
If the behavior persists, you might want to think about a phenol issue. We have been SCD for 9 months and we're doing great on the diet. However, SCD is high in phenols (grape juice, apples, etc.) and that will cause significant behavioral issues in some children. We reduced the phenols and stayed SCD without a problem. If you see behaviors occuring shortly after eating (maybe 1-2 hours), I would think phenols. But it certainly could be a yeast die-off so see if it goes away in a few days first. ________________________________ From: threekidsandapig <threekidsandapig@...> Sent: Fri, November 6, 2009 9:04:51 AM Subject: [ ] Re: 2nd day on Diet, He's freaking out!!Help!!  My son did fantastic on SCD. Guest guest
This could be die-off, or could be withdrawal form food addictions. Either way, it is a good sign- if not difficult to watch and inconvenient! My ASD son had a very rough first 3 days on the diet (we do GAPS, which is basically SCD). On the third day he had a fever and couldn't keep anything down, even just a drop of water. i worried so much all day whether I was doing the right thing because clearly it was making him so sick. He woke up the morning on the fourth day more coherent and " with it " then he'd been since his regression. A big fog had lifted. It is very hard, but it has been SO worth it! My son is not on the spectrum anymore. His two issues left are delayed speech (although he's catching up quickly) and anxiety, but it is about 75% better. He is very social and is now in a school setting with no modifications and thriving. It was only 6 months ago that he began to recover enough to even go to library story time with me for 30 min. From what I've heard of other people's experiences and my own, having a very fast and severe reaction to the diet is a sign of good things to come! Is there a way your son could " stay home sick " for a week or so to ease the transition? We homeschool, which really really helped us get through the tough times. You can also give epsom salt baths to help with die-off, and give activated charcoal to mop up the toxins. I think protease enzymes can help too? Good luck! have you joined any SCD lists yet? They're helpful too. -Sierra http://grainfreefoodie.blogspot.com/ > > > Hi there, > > > > My one child had it tough for about 3 weeks and the other a month and a half after starting SCD. Guest guest
We also had aggression when we tried SCD. It was a nightmare. I have learned that it's yeast. Yeast fighting to survive. The more you feed them/starve them, the harder they work at survival. With my boy yeast growing/yeast dying has the same effect. He gets aggressive. It gets ugly. Three weeks ago I removed almost all carbs. I had to stop feeding the yeast. I began yeast treatment and now rotate several about every 4 days. So far, everyone around him has seen major improvement. He still has minor periods of aggression, which come on suddenly and are hard to predict/deal with. I know we need to get the metals out. It will end the cycle. I'm using the following on a 4 day rotating schedule: A. Capryl B. KandidaPlex (has Calcium Undecylenate, Pau d' arco, Enzymes, Berberine, Trans-resveratrol) C. SF722 (Undecenoic Acid) I'm also using Charcoal. I'm experimenting with adding Coconut Oil to his almond butter. I'm planning to add in Oregano Oil, probiotics, more enzymes. ONE AT A TIME. Poor boy can't handle too much at once - it causes aggression. I noticed each yeast treatment works well for a few days and then tapers off. Therefore the rotation. I'm still working it out but it seems I can treat as follows: Day 1: Treatment A Day 2: Treatment A Day 3: Treatment A Day 4: Treatment A + B Day 5: Treatment B Day 6: Treatment B Day 7: Treatment B Day 8: Treatment B + C Day 9: Treatment C Day 9: Treatment C Day 10: Treatment C Day 11: Treatment C + A etc I hope the above helps you and helps stop aggression. Thanks to all on this board - your feedback provides the greatest hope. Deb > > Today is our 2nd day being SCD. > > > Rose > > > > >
Guest guest
I realize you are already through it, but I wanted to say Congratulations for sticking it out and getting through it. Re: 2nd day on Diet, He's freaking out!!Help!!
