Guest guest
Just our experience...with our six year old son, eye rubbing is an avoidance behavior, as is nose wiping. He does have minor allergies with symptoms like runny eyes and nose, but he really only engages in this behavior when asked to perform a task at school or at home with a therapist. He could play his Wii video game or watch Spongebob for hours and never touch his nose once. As soon as I ask him to do his homework or eat dinner, the wiping and rubbing starts! I think it's possible that this behavior is unconscious at this point, but he's still exhibiting a non-compliant avoidance behavior. Everyone's situation is different of course, but I thought I'd share this, as it took a long time for me to realize what was actually happening. Best of luck, Crystal
Guest guest
It is also a visual input problem. Our kiddo's sensory issues are all related to vestibular and visual input. Good read about this 'seeing through new eyes' by dr. melvin kaplan. We just started with his vision therapy-my kiddo rubs his eyes like this, along with a lot of 'clumsiness', visual stims, and sensory related issues....he claims all can be cured with his lenses. We will give it a year-but are very hopeful-Jen McCarthy recommended him in her book. The experience was amazing (we just got back from NY appt. with him)-we are very hopeful and excited to try this therapy. HTH someone!
