Guest guest
Have you looked at sensory integration? Our son is struggling with focus/attention issues, can sit still. He has an SPD diagnosis, but at 3 yrs it was hard to get a good picture of all his sensory issues. Now he's 6, in Kindergarten and doing well, but if we dont get a good handle on it now, I worry that he will start to have problems in school. Our school recommended he get another eval. They think his focus/attention issues may be sensory related and suggested this as alternative to ADD/ADHD meds. We may end up doing the meds, but want to explore this first. Guest guest
tried dr yasko's tests and supplements? From: eaofthehills@... Date: Thu, 15 Apr 2010 10:58:16 -0700 Subject: Re: Re: Focus & Attention I guess i am going to get screamed at by various people, but have you tried ADD meds ,tea or pygenol? I am a BAD mom but at this point I am trying ADD meds. My daughter has fallen so far behind from not focusing that we are going to try them again. Our daughter was born bright and just gotten further behind typical kids each year. I tried them a few years ago and my daughter could do things like sit and play legos or climb a wall but then the teacher thought she was spacey and less language/imagination. Stimming was way down. We took her off them probably should have had dose changed dose. Doc and pharmacist say we will probably have to try a few kinds and different doses . One of our friends daughters was always a bit different but was in typical class in lowest reading group . She took her off ADD meds and then the teachers said aspergers and the kids started teasing her. I think the ADD meds kept some of her behaviors down to help pass her off as normal if a loner and a bit different if really watched. Gum also helps with focus . They are able to get nervous tension out in an ok way. > > > We have tried everything biomedical and diet related as well. Guest guest
Have you tried fish oil? It was mentioned on another group and a link for omegabrite.com stated that it helped with mood and focus. lisa Re: Focus & Attention Have you looked at sensory integration? Guest guest
I know you said " other means " for suggestions but I thought I would mention zinc has really helped my son. It helps his overall calmness which in turn helps him focus. But also having my son do " heavy work " each day helps him. Doing physical activity each day--walks, pulling a wagon, riding his bike, carrying laundry baskets--those type of activites are things my son needs. Weighted lap blankets help too. You can order them online or through your OT. Make sure they are filled with rocks, etc not metal weights. > > Hello, > > I have 5 year old son with Autism who is an intermediate learner. He has made significant strides since his diagnosis 3 years back, although there is a lot to achieve. The current challenge that he is facing is the FOCUS & ATTENTION issue. He has immense potential of grasping things but due to lack of focus and attention, he is missing out so many opportunities. > > We have tried the Biomedical approach and tried various supplements including GABA, 5HTP, Taurine, Quercitin, Methyl B12 shots, Super Nu Thera, TMG, etc, but none of them helped his issue. Guest guest
We've had very good luck with Nordic Natural's EPA for our 3 1/2 year old daughter (1000mg daily in her OJ, it's 4:1 EPA:DHA). She had a run of antibiotics recently, which through her *way* off so we started with probiotics once/day and are keeping that in her routine since it's having such a positive effect. Guest guest
> > Thanks for your response. It is nice to hear that people are addressing Attention and Focus problems without meds. I think the charter school option is great, IF we can get in to one near us. They get about 10 times more applications than capacity. > > Anjana parker > http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/adhd/adhd.htm ADHD_Bulletin_Board/ http://www.ericdigests.org/2003-5/auditory.htm
