Guest guest
Anywone know of why a child might not gain weight? supplements or minerals that might be toxic or not enough? THanks
Guest guest
In my child's case it was malabsorption of his foods. I started giving him enzymes (I'm using Trienza because it has almost everything, including No-Fenol for veggies and fuits), and also COLOSTRUM , and I see some weight increase already after only two weeks. I also added lots of fats (avocado, butter, cheese, powder milk), everything high in calories and especially fat per the nutritionist advise. I had to reduce or remove his juice intake (drinking too much juice won't let space for more foods in his stomach). I think Colostrum is great, and it helps with so many other problems (like respiratory infections, or sickness in general), it heps body fight infections, and it helps in gaining weight. > > Anywone know of why a child might not gain weight? supplements or > minerals that might be toxic or not enough? Food issues can cause this, try digestive enzymes. Mitochondrial dysfunction was a cause here http://www.danasview.net/mar05.htm Carnitine deficiency was a cause here. Plus thyroid issues. Guest guest
This post caught my attention bc of my baby. He is 9 months old. He was 8 lbs. at birth and is now only 13 lbs. 15 oz. He finally gained 8 1/2 oz. after being at a standstill at the weight of 13 lbs 7.5 oz. He is very healthy. Goes to daycare and had recovered from everything going around without any meds. and in half the time of the other kids. Only 2 wks ago finally had to have amoxicillan for " goopy " eye infection that all the kids got. His doctor's office doesn't push drugs and are okay with biomeds. But wanted to use amox. this time bc he had a little resp. problem still and ear infection also that wasn't any worse but not clearing up. Did probiotics that whole time too and is doing great now. He eats homemade organic food and Earth's Best organic food. Passed speech, OT, and PT and day treatment evals. fine. Doesn't qualify for any services. Yea! Active. Active. Meeting milestones on time and some early. Eats better and more than any child in his class. Breastmilk only until 4 weeks ago. Now, I have to supplement with organic formula. His known issues are that his testicles have not decended. I am getting lots of controversial, pushy infomation on this from doctors. And, they finally heard a heart murmur, and an ultrasound (and x-ray and EKG) showed he has a narrow valve that they will check again in Feb. The doctor said that had nothing to do with his small size (she blew it off that he would probably just be a petite child). If the valve gets more narrow they will run a balloon through it. (Scary) If it stays the same they won't do anything. No one can answer my questions about why his forehead gets sweaty usually just when laying down and why he breaths loud, but if you get in his face (sometimes) he will stop it and be silent. He goes to the Growth and Development clinic on the 26th. Around here they like to put kids on Pediasure and threaten with a feeding tube. I wouldn't do either one. What signs would I be looking for if he has malabsorption problems? He just really seems okay. Thanks, April > > > > Anywone know of why a child might not gain weight? supplements or > > minerals that might be toxic or not enough? Guest guest
This sounds like me. I was just told I have a worm of some kind (sorry, kind of gross...). I will be submitting a stool sample on Dec 1 (I have to be off my enzymes for 10 days beforehand). Then I will have to take a course of western meds, dependant on the type of worm. My naturepath says this problem is pretty prevalent here in Los Angeles, probably from improper food handing. I am scared to eat out now. PS My nephew has one too, and he has gained 10 pounds in a very short time, and is very cranky and unhappy. ________________________________ From: a Alloza <gabrielaalloza@...> Sent: Sunday, November 23, 2008 5:38:39 PM Subject: Re: Re: not gaining weight Hi I have malabsorbtion. ... Guest guest
Hello, A good quality digestive enzyme like DigestGold is very important. " Supplying enzymes can lead to better nutrient absorption, proper health, and thus weight gain. Weight gain can also result because of reduced discomfort cause by indigestion, bloating, gas, and other problems, which may discourage someone from eating a balanced diet. Sansum's (1932) published results on weight from a number of cases at the Potter Metabloic Clinic show that weight regulation is a long- standing effect of taking enzymes. Of 197 individuals who were underweight, 91 percent improved b gaining weight with enzymes. " (Enzymes for Autism) Hope this information helps someone. If anyone would like a sample of DigestGold just let me know!
