Guest guest
I have heard accounts of people doing just that, but many more have done the diet first, then after being on the diet along with other measures to heal the gut they go to enzymes and slowly add back in forbidden foods with great results. My son has been gfcfsf for 4 years and we just started him on enzymes. He will be on enzymes and the diet for 2 months before we start adding in forbidden foods, gluten first because it is the hardest to avoid. I hve been told by several people that enzymes will not ever be able to replace the diet, but I am willing to give it a try to make my life so much easier. Doing neither is not an option for us. -Undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome Stay at home mom to 3, Wife to -6-6-02-Autism Spectrum, the light of my life Katy-11-19-03-undiagnosed genetic syndrome that includes cleft palate-Pierre Robin Sequence, scoliosis, heart defects, short stature, low muscle tone, developmental delay, oral defensiveness, g tube fed part time-working on oral feeding, slightly dysmorphic features, and my joy J.D-no issues except he is totally in love with mommy, cutest baby in the world visit my blog http://busiestmommyinamerica.blogspot.com " If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart! Guest guest
We were on the diet for 4 years and about 4 months ago started enzymes with great success. Now we are adding back gluten slowly & increasing enzymes. We use houston chewables (2 zyme prime, 2 AFP) with each food that isn't gf and 2 zyme prime with gf/cf food. We aren't adding casein because we know this was the worst for him (plus we are mostly vegan anyway for ethical reasons). I have been thinking of adding soy once we feel comfortable with the gluten situation. Soy & gluten are the hardest to avoid in my opinion. So far things are going ok (been about 3 days!). No regression but a little hyperness & emotional which could be the increase in enzymes actually.....not sure yet. FWIW, the diet was the single most important thing we did for my son's progress and it does get easier. He now only has a few autistic-like characteristics and is doing super well. GFCF helped a lot with cognitive & social development. Adding enzymes helped tremendously with his mood and flexibility. Good luck!-Kelli From: Bussey <seanandkaty@...> Subject: Re: Enzymes vs. GFCF diet Date: Monday, February 9, 2009, 10:17 AM I have heard accounts of people doing just that, but many more have done the diet first, then after being on the diet along with other measures to heal the gut they go to enzymes and slowly add back in forbidden foods with great results. Guest guest
We're doing enzymes first (and dealing with yeast). We will most likely need to do a stricter diet to finish off the yeast problem. There have been improvements with enzymes and supplements w/o GFCF, but after seeing my son interacting the day he was fasting for his GI tests, I am wondering if it is something we will have to turn to soon (GFCF). My concerns with the diet is that I also suspect soy, corn, rice and phenols are problems for us and our diet will become very limited very fast. I think starting with the enzymes and other supplements might help healing the gut some first. At least, I hope. > > I am trying to find out if anyone has luck with the enzymes. Guest guest
Which ones did you use? We are using Trienza and I am liking the results, but I wonder if the chewable ones might be easier to give him especially at school(when we get that far into it). Maybe I could do chewables at school and Trienza at home. He will not swallow a capsule, I have tried to teach him to no avail, so I open the capsule and mix with almond or rice milk. Guest guest
our school nurse prefers to open the trienza capsel into juice for my son rather than having 3 seperate bottles of the chewables. I buy small bottles of juice for her that she keeps in the fridge. She even kept a bottle, washed it out at home and brought it back it for the teacher to take on a field trip and mix directly in the bottle that she put a small amt of juice in. My 6 year old also will not swallow a capsle. yes, i know how lucky i am to have such a supportive nurse. denice > From: Bussey <seanandkaty@...> > Subject: Re: Re: Enzymes vs. GFCF diet > > Date: Wednesday, February 11, 2009, 6:18 AM > Which ones did you use?
