Guest guest
It's a really good idea to give your child probiotics when taking antibiotics. I don't know that much about colostrum. We did try it for a while but it did nothing for us. I've heard that olive leaf extract is very good but have yet to try it. I would try one thing at a time. I would go with the probiotics first. Hope this helps. =) > > My almost 4 yr old ASD son has constant ear infections and sore > throats.Hehas been on antibiotics most of this > winter.I have read that taking colostrum and probiotics may help in reducing > the number and severity of episodes.Has somebody here had experience with > it? Guest guest
What I have heard (probably on this list), is that the antibiotics will kill the probiotics, so it's best to take an antifungal while taking the antibiotics and then do the probiotics to repopulate the gut after the antibiotics are done. I don't have personal experience with this, but that's what I've heard. I've heard of lots of kids who get chronic earaches benefitting from being off of dairy, so that might be worth trying if you aren't already. Also there is information in " Biological Treatments for Autism and PDD " by Shaw about the connection between chronic ear infections and ASD, so I would highly recommend reading up on it there. It has a section towards the beginning called something like " breaking the viscious cycle " - very helpful. -Sierra > > > > It's a really good idea to give your child probiotics when taking > antibiotics. > > I don't know that much about colostrum. At my house, ear infections were caused by yeast in the ears. Try giving biotin and/or GSE, see if that helps. If it is bacterial, olive leaf extract might help. Guest guest
-My son was getting ear infections all the time until I figured out he was allergic to milk and other foods, but mainly milk. IS he diet restricted? I used garlic/mullein oil with 2-3 drops GSE in bottle of oil in ears and it successfully treated 8 out of 10 ear infections. I also have him on colostrum from kirkman's (casein-free, lactose-free) and he recovers quickly when sick. Ole is good, just hard to get down little kids. If yo can't get it down, rub on soles of feet. I have done that before and it seemed to help. Probiotics are great for repopulating the gut with good bacteria. If he is Cf, make sure the probioitic is as well. Kirkman's makes one called PRo-Bio Gold that is chewable and good-tasting. Just be sure that you start out slow on this one. My son, and many others, have taken the whole dose the first time and had horrible die-off. Start with a quarter and over a coulpe of weeks, get to the full wafer. It is really not that strong of a probiotic (20 billion CFU's). Their are higher ones available, but some kids with bad yeast can react badly. Hope this helps. Guest guest
You may wish to rethink your feelings on giving him soy, since soy is a phytoestrogen and not good for anyone but especially not good for boys. Most people have problems with the pasteurization and homoginization of milk along with the additives in it. You might want to find a source for real milk here: www.realmilk.com You can find farmers that have real milk at this website.
