IPod to show the songs visually on the screen.

We use an Ipod to transfer over the OT CDs - have to use " lossless formatting "

and some other fancy selections to keep it from compressing from the CD to Ipod

(compressing looses the beneficial formatting that does the therapy) but it's

fantastic. No skipping and no risk of the kid pulling the CD out & hurling it

across the room or anything equally destructive.

An IPOD is one of the best things going at our house. i dont know much about GB

and names but i have one that is a slim rectangle holds about 500 songs shows

the song names and requires light touch to scroll through. My son does very well

with this. i also have a 20 dollar MP3 player about an inch squared and theres

four buttons for volume and forward or back through songs. there is no screen

but for my son it works well because he likes to flip through songs listen to

intros, bits and pieces, etc. have fun! music is huge for my son too.

Hi,

On another board i'm on there's discussion of an IPod touch application that is

a speech device, so if your child is non-/semi-verbal, that would be the way to

go if you can afford it. Depending on his/her needs, maybe, once this device

gets known to the speech therapy world, you could get your school system to buy

it for you, but I don't know how possible that might be, especially if you use

it for things besides speech.

If you can afford a little more; get him the iPodTouch. He can play games, use

it as a camera, listen to music, etc. For those parents with non-verbal kids;

they even have an PECS type of program called proloquo2go that you can download

with itunes.

I'd try an IPod for him. He is 11 years old and can use a camera, computer with

no problems. I think he will get the hang of an IPod in no time.

Just a little clarification, the iPod Touch does not have camera

capabilities, only the iPhone. But I can tell you that I love my iPod

Touch :)

iPod Nano, 5G has a screen that shows the song as it is playing. Also has video

and camera. Much less expensive than the touch. It just came out in September

in cool colors. My 11 yr old daughter loves hers.

My 13 yr old has the iTouch and it is consuming. I would want something for my

ASD son that isn't so engrossing so he spend time interacting with us! Way too

many games, applications, web access and TV shows to watch for my liking. He

adores it but I quickly learned we need to limit use (he is not my spectrum

kid).
