RE: spitting... AND LOTS OF IT

I have been doing this a great deal in recent weeks. I don't really

know what it means. It seems to be about purging toxins.

Sometimes, my saliva disgusts me and I just have to spit it out. It

kind of tastes funny and ....I can't really explain it. But some

days, I do this constantly. My teeth and gums have dramatically

improved during this period.

I had been struggling (still am though it is now reduced) with my son's spitting

for more than 2 years.Enzymes, increasing yeast protocol did not help. But OLE

has helped almost eliminate it. Probably, it is viral for him. But whenever he

has sweet in any form, he almost immediately starts spitting. I can't figure

this out.

When my son spit and then played with the saliva, it meant he needed

carnitine with the supps I had just added.

Enzyme Complete contains papain and/or bromelain, which some kids

don't tolerate. Try removing that. Did the HNI cause problems? If

not, try adding that back.

Hi Dana,

Hm. Thanks for the ideas!

When we went back to the NAET practitioner we see, she said Evan was

allergic to HNI and may have been too strong for him. Evan was a

mess at that time, on 40 different supplements and bunch of viral

issues plus a strong prescription antifungal (actually 2 of them)

that tore his stomach up. So his pain may have been a cumulative

effect of all these issues rather than just the HNI. So the doctor

treated him for all supplements but also put him on a supp. vacation

for about 2 weeks, then we began to add things back in one at a

time. She also switched my son from HNI to Kirkman's enzymes and

ordered a 1/2 dose of that. But he did get treated for HNI too so I

think it is fair to give it a try, maybe start with 1/2 capsule of

each first. It may have been just a bit too much for him at the

time he was so sick but maybe because of all the other things that

were going on at the same time.

Actually now that I think of it, all the spitting started up pretty

much when we stopped Ev's supplements after he was so sick and in

pain sot hat he can heal. This included the HNI, Vit. C, OLE,

caprylic, OOO, just to mention a few. Now I am beginning to add

them back in, but trying to stick to the minimum amount I can get

away with. He takes a multi, zinc, the enzymes, a homeopatic one

for yeast, superprobiotic from Kirkman's, cod liver oil, Uva Ursi

for yeast, inositol for anxiety and visual stims (just started 2

days ago), an herbal mixture with quercetin for sinuses/allergies,

and that's it for now.

So this morning I switched him from Kirkman's enzyme complete to 1/2

caps of each of the HNI. I also addedd OLE back in. Last night

added OOO.

Should I step back and only play with the enzymes first to see what

really is making a difference?

Maybe after the enzymes, OLE, OOO, I could add Carnitine (never

tried this supplement before) if the spitting is still there?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Sathya,

Thanks for your email. OLE has been good for us here too, in low

doses. I will try adding that back in. Thanks again for your

advice.

Unfortunately, there are only a few pediatric GI physicians that understand

ASD children - Krigsman, Buie, and Hart.

Hello,

Anyone has any ideas why spitting may occur? Our doctor thinks that my son

has a sore throat...but all the time? I thought it may be digestive/reflux

rather....any experience?

Maybe adding enzymes? We are doing Kirkman's enzyme complete with DPP-IV

surrently, just 1/2 with meals....used to to the Houston ones but our doctor

thought they were too strong for Evan. I don't know!!!

Has anyone seen a GI specialist with their child with ASD who has been of

any help?

Thanks for any ideas and suggestions !

I know everyone may have different answers for dif symptoms but I

most assuredly can say (w/ my kiddo 2-3 times in past )spitting as

well as playing with saliva has been related to yeast.

Which component of which HNI enzyme? You would need to watch for that

component with other enzymes also.

Don't give this for more than about 2 weeks, then switch to something

else.

You should add one thing at a time, and wait a sufficient amount of

time before adding the next thing, so you know what each thing does.

There are a few exceptions to this rule, but it is the usual rule.

You can try that, see if it helps.

It would be beneficial to determine which supp/s are causing the

spitting, because that would tell you what is the cause.

Hi Kenny,

Makes sense. I will see if changing the enzymes will help it or

not. If not, then I will increase/change our yeast protocol. I am

really trying to do 1 thing at a time to determine what was causing

it.

I also have seen this spitting in the past and it usually responded

well to diflucan....but I don't want to go that route this time, not

until I explore other possible reasons and natural remedies also.

Thanks for your thoughts very much.

Just adding to Kenny -- yes, spitting is a yeast thing -- but it may be more.

My son began his spitting when we put him on a strict gluten free, casein free

diet. We did nothing else and that triggered so much spitting! Eventually,

playing with spit became a form of stimming. Suggest you treat the yeast and

intervene also by saying, " no spitting " .

I hope that helps.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for your responses. I really appreciate you guiding me

through this!

These comments are to Dana's post to me:

> Which component of which HNI enzyme? You would need to watch for

that

This has not been determined. All of the HNI enzymes made my son

weak. I will ask the NAET parcticioner if we could determine what

component. But due to the allergy treatment we could actually

reintroduce the HNI enzymes b/c he is supposed to tolerate them

following the treatment. I am thinking if the spitting stops, then I

will just keep Evan on 1/2 capsule and monitor with NAET for

tolerance.

Like what? I tried OOO for a day but he had diarrhea from it. I

guess we can try GSE, too, or Candidase/Candex but that tends to make

the stools softer and his are already on the soft side. Evan was

weak for Caprylic acid (which initially was wonderful for him)

through NAET and doctor recommended not to use it b/c of the acid. I

guess garlic is an option. I want something just specifically for

the yeast so that no viral issues are stirred up. I am trying to get

the little guy ready for detox and don't want to do deep into viral

stuff right now.... Any thoughts please?

OK I took everything off board except the old supplements. The

sptiing actually started when he was on NO supplements. Then he was

treated for some viruses so it may be related to that, too, or some

yeast being kicked up, or the enzymes issue. I will start with the

enzymes and see if he improves until Frday. Then I will switch

perhaps to another antifungal. Then maybe the Carnitine.

Hopefully this will help!

Yeah. I suppose if these three routes won't work I can just stop the

supplements he is on all together for a few days.

Thanks again!!!

Hi,

thanks for this. Weare definitely going to explore this and see a GI

specialist. Will try with a local doc, and if that does not help,

will consider seeing someone that is more specializing in ASD.

Thanks again for your input.

I have friends who took their son to Dr. Arthur Kringsman, a gastro dr

in Long Island who deals with kids w/autism, and they found out that

this poor kid's esophagus had tons of inflammation. He tended to vomit

when he was upset, and this ended up being why. Reflux is really common

in ASD kids. I would definitely pursue this and not allow a mainstream

doctor to blow is off; your instincts are good.

Try bringing a bottle of Kirkman or Enzymedica enzymes, see if he has

a similar problem with those.

Anyone has any ideas why spitting may occur?

Hi

When I increased eggs in my sons diet, he started spitting. When I cut them

back, it stopped. I have read that spitting can be associated with

glutathione issues (eggs contain cysteine which is needed to make

glutathione) or ammonia issues (protein digestion problems) - not sure which

it was for my son . . . or both!

Good luck

:-)
