Guest guest
Hi there, You are not alone but I know that it feels that way sometimes. I have not done the ATEC but know that my 3 year old would be very high. He's the most severe that any of our therapist and the school has seen. Zero receptive language, no imitation skills, no understanding of gestures, very OCD, no functional communication..... the list goes on. Basically he's a train wreck, however he is improving. No more gut pain, manic laughing, spinning and self injurious behavior. He's seeking out cuddles and tickles. My 5 year old was worse and is now moving up to the moderate level. He's talking a bit and starting to play with his typical brother. We do hours of ABA and tons of bio-med.. Hang in there. Casandra autism treatment ; ; mb12 valtrex From: roserudolph55@... Guest guest
Hi Rose, I am not familiar with the ATEC test but my daughter is also severly affected. She is 5 and we are still waiting for words and potty training. She has come a long way with Biomedical introvention though and continues to make strides forward. I have to look at it this was, she was so severly injured and affected by so many issues (viral overload, toxic metals, mito issues...etc.) and that means we have so many protocols and biomed options that we still have to try. We see gains and just keep running the marathon of healing. You are not alone!! Amy > > Does anyone else have a son that scores 147 on the ATEC. My son is very severely affected by autism. Guest guest
I found the test and will do it later today, looks interesting though. I'll let you know what I find. > > > > Does anyone else have a son that scores 147 on the ATEC. My son is very severely affected by autism. Guest guest
Dear Rose, At his worst, my son's ATEC was 172. I was so naive I didn't realize how bad that was until I checked and found out that 180 was the highest possible score. I think there are some people, like me, who underestimate the severity of our kids simply because they are our kids and we tend to be isolated with them, and then something like the ATEC can be an eye-opener. Now that I am out around other kids more, I can get a better sense of the severity of my son's deficits and the many strengths he does have. We've been doing biomed for 5 years. My son has not been a huge responder and often when he does respond to something, he seems to regress again afterwards. I have not done an ATEC in quite a long time but your post motivated me to score him again. He scored a 90. This was an excellent surprise for me--he has not scored below 100 before (I've done 6 or 7 ATECs as I don't do them for every intervention as it honestly would be too depressing). Part of my son's progress right now might be attributed to going SCD. We had done SCD before and it was a disaster. However, revisiting it seems to have been helpful. I'm not sure why--it may be as simple as I'm better at it now and understand things like lectins in nuts, or it may be something else entirely. Either way, I'm glad I tried again. I should also mention that back when my son was much more severe, we were trying to teach him signing. We tried to teach him to sign " more " for 8 months. Endlessly, for hours a day. He couldn't learn it. Finally, when he did learn it, we moved to " swing " and he lost " more " . It was very discouraging. These last 2 weeks, when we have started therapy again in earnest after a move from overseas, my son has learned 5 signs, makes some sounds like " pi " for " spin " and and mouths a couple words silently. This is huge for us. We still have a long way to go. I believe my son will be the kind of kid who needs 300 rounds of chelation (we've done 140) and a lot of education therapy, to name just of two interventions we need to continue to pursue. So, even though my son is still severely affected by autism, his quality of life is so much better than it was before when he was a constantly unhappy, self-injuring, isolated, lethargic boy completely in his own world who couldn't even stand to hug someone. It has not been at all steady forward progress (my son has viral issues which I think make steady forward progress very difficult) but our worst days are behind us I believe. I realize my post to you is not exactly what you were looking for as my son's ATEC is now quite a bit lower than your son's. But, I do want to tell you that even with kids who don't seem to respond very quickly or significantly to interventions, changes can happen. It's exhausting--emotionally, physically, socially, mentally, maritally, familialy, economically--and there are no guarantees, but I continue to just try to put one foot in front of the other, learning about interventions that might help my son, continuing to implement the ones that I know do help him, and trying to make my best judgements about the whole process. Warmly, Anita > > Does anyone else have a son that scores 147 on the ATEC. My son is very severely affected by autism. Does anyone else have a severely affected son/daughter? My son's initial ATEC score was in the 140s, I don't remember exactly tho. I did the initial score about 10 years ago. The last time I did his score, which was about 2 years ago, I think it was 9. He no longer qualifies as autistic, but he is not yet age-appropriate. Here is the most recent page of photos on my site, from 2007/08. My severe child is #2. http://www.danasview.net/dec07pic.htm Dana

Guest guest
Dear Rose, My children are in the ASD spectrum as well. I do not know how bad their symptoms would be if I was not doing the biomedical interventions. This group has many knowledgeable people who share their wealth of information. Wish you smooth beginnings in your journey towards recovery. Anjie > > Does anyone else have a son that scores 147 on the ATEC. My son is very severely affected by autism. Guest guest
Rose, I would just stay away from those checklists. The way your son scores on it now may be very different from how he will score in the future. What is the point in giving the autism a number score when you just don't know what the future holds yet? Guest guest
I know you were not the original poster but I did wonder. Does you son watch TV the signing time video's rock. If my son would watch TV. Funny little critter if he is the first one awake he will go turn on the TV and watch it alone. If anyone else is up he is off to the races. Was just a thought and when I try to post to poeple I always click the wrong person. > > > > Does anyone else have a son that scores 147 on the ATEC. My son is very severely affected by autism. Guest guest
Dana thank you for sharing that was very nice of you. My son still has a really hard time looking at the camera. Sadly I still have all the pictures from when he could and I can just grip them and cry. We have come a long way but I still want my whole son back. > > Does anyone else have a son that scores 147 on the ATEC. My son is very severely affected by autism. Guest guest
We actually went from a 67 to a 73 now he is around 48. ***TOTAL AND SUBSCALE SCORES*** Total Score: 48 I. Speech/Language/Communication: 19 II. Sociability: 5 III. Sensory/Cognitive Awareness: 11 IV. Health/Physical/Behavior: 13 Can you see how much the speech is holding him up. It is so hard cause communication is like our last battle. Not that he does not have some other habits I am not thrilled with but if he could talk more and understand more speech I wonder if they could be delt with. I don't mind having the ATEC cause it does show me we have gotten better. Though we are by no means out of the woods. Sadly his blood work is way worse then his speech problem. Hang in there. It is really hard to compare our children as they are so different. I was talking to a mother today and he son has become a computer wiz really cute cause I know him so I was really happy for her. He is also by no means out of the woods. I wish my son would master something other then being the most quardinated child with Autism ever. > > > > Does anyone else have a son that scores 147 on the ATEC. Guest guest
While I am a firm believer in the AC protocol, I think that for most of us it can't just be chelation alone. We have tried many things, everything works better with chelation on board. Currently my mom comes over after work 5 nights a week and she and my son do a " Wipeout " workout. It's actually from the book Disconnected Kids. I think that once the metals are on the way out, it's really important to build those neural connections again and this book helps you pinpoint which areas are weak. Our old pediatrician said our boy had hyper mobile joints. His core muscles are super weak. Last year in gymnastics he would spend half the time laying on the mats. This year, because of chelation, he is engaged and participating for the whole hour. Mom has been doing the program for 2 weeks and his gains in core strength have been amazing. He can do the bridge pose with his arms over his chest and his shoulders on the floor for 200 secs now without wavering. It's helped with his body awareness too. In gymnastics this week, he bounced on the trampoline, landing in a bum drop and then bouncing to flat on his back. He has never been able to control his body that way. It's been a long road, barely verbal and barely potty trained at 4 to now. Just this past month, he's started doing up his own zippers and putting on his own socks, he's 6. Guest guest
I am there too Rose. It is really really painful. Leia aged 3 this friday babbles but has maybe a few words that are used sporadically. She does not feed herself, doesn't chew. She only started to walk at the age of 2 years and 3 months. Minimal eye contact, stimming, turning her head from side to side, She becomes receptive when engaged (cuddles, tickling, physical touch) and will respond when someone asks her if she wants to drink (her favorite occupation), she also likes music, but mostly she is in her own world. Most of the time her cognition seems very low. I have just started biomedics and she has just done a round of antibiotics and is now on nystatin. For the last couple of days she hasn't wanted to eat. I am worried that it is from the biomedics or some sort of die-off. I am praying all the time that things will get better. I am dreading celebrating her 3rd birthday. I mean, look at where we are..... Write more... From: casandra oldham <cmfitness@...> Subject: RE: Someone make me feel better. My son never looked at the camera until about 5 years into biomedical, he has a Kanner diagnosis, " severe autism from birth " . He is almost 14 now. So even if your son does not look at the camera now, or he has other autism symtpoms, don't think that he will always be that way.
