Guest guest
, I say its all about containment. A moving package (depending on the degree of movement) that occurs with boxer underwear can be discomforting and distracting. Shorts with an inner lining reduce those two variables. [it is much simpler to wear " Speedo " or bikini style underwear, as is the fairly general fashion in most other Western countries. In weightlifting training it is a good idea to wear tighter fitting briefs under your lifting suit or sweatsuit, because, if you are pulling the bar very close to the body, you have less chance of winding or almost castrating yourself. Interestingly, any males who wore boxer style briefs or swimsuits in many other Western countries would be regarded as real hillbillies or renegades from the 19th century. The issue of boxer wear in sports usually doesn't arise in many other countries because few males would be seen dead in changerooms or bedrooms attired like that! My colleagues in the Netherlands will understand the term " plaas jaapies " (farm yokels) -- that was an expression that was often used to describe any males in South Africa who wore boxer shorts as a form of underwear. Aren't societal norms and fashions intriguing? Mel Siff] A further factor to consider with the contents of boxers is weight shift and sway, and whether or not this would be a significant factor on performance. It would appear unlikely, although I have no references to confirm this. I recall watching on Discovery channel recently, the quest for the perfect sports bra to reduce vertical breast displacement (apparently an average of 8-10 cm in a normal bra & average size) when jogging. If only the sedentary population knew what kinds of stressors the sports community has to contend with!
