I took folic acid before getting pregnant and during m y first trimester.

Dana, how did you find out that your son was folic acid deficient?

I took a standard prenatal vitamin while pregnant with all four of my kids. My

#2 is my autistic child, and he was severely folic acid deficient. There was a

time when I was dumping basically an entire bottle of folic every day into his

body.

I wonder what the reason is.Is the folic acid the mother is taking is not

reaching the baby?Is the mother not able to get it to the baby,passing it in her

urine instead,orÂ is theÂ baby somehow unable to take it in and metabolize it? I

take it your children all have both C677T and A1298C mutations like I do.

I would suggest you get your DAN! toÂ prescribe Leucovorin,like mine did.It was

originally meant for chemotherapy patients,

I think it's very interesting that these same mutations,and this same problem

with folate metabolism is also found in neural tube defects.The spina bifida

doctors and parents might have some answers for us.

I think autism IS a metabolic disease.
