Hey Alison,

Just a thought...... you may want to skip the sun screen and just cover up with

long sleeves , hats etc...

Some sun is good for us Blocking it all out is not.

I know there are times like in the water that its helpful but you can also make

your own.

That way you don't have to worry about what went in it.

There are lots of good recipes if you search the net.

Even fragrence and colour free ones affect him badly but it is his behaviour

that changes first followed by a rash a couple of days later so it's not a skin

contact issue.

a chemical free, low fenol one exists.

My son is allergic to paba, I have tried all natrual ones and still had a

reaction. The only one we can use is coopertone water babies. Not sure if it has

any other bad stuff but it is they only one he does not react to.  Also, I do

try to give the kids at least 30 mins of sun without sun screens for vitamin d.

We tried the coppertone babies a couple of years ago and my daughter ended up in

a full body rash. The only one we've found that works is Banana Boat Babies

hypoallergenic. This year I tried the banana boat kids hypo and she broke out

again. We're sticking with the baby formula. I think it just depends on your

kid and what they can tolerate.

Either of the products mentioned still have salicylates (relatives of phenols if

I am not mistaken) in them, which our daughter reacts to behaviorally. (It's

kind of like rubbing artificial colors on your skin, even if it isn't the kind

that has that to show where it has/hasn't been applied, as far as how her body

reacts to the chemicals.) We use the California Baby (expensive but no behavior

issues). I've seen a few other brands out there various places, but can't

remember their names.

Hope this helps.

I just bought Trader Joes Face & Body sunscreen SPF # 30, PABA Free, with

zinc oxide instead of the other chemical sunscreens - haven't tried it yet.

says it doesn't clog pores, oil free, water resistant

This was a hugh problem for our family last summer. My 2 yr old DS reacted to

everyone tried. I think it is the chemical content rather than sensitive skin.

Even fragrence and colour free ones affect him badly but it is his behaviour

that changes first followed by a rash a couple of days later so it's not a skin

success.

Dr Mercola - www.mercola.com - sells all-natural bug spray and sunblock.

Not sure of the ingredients...
