Natural Calm is a good brand. It comes in flavors for kids, such as orange and

raspberry. You may have to order it online. My health food store does not carry

it.

Do you have a brand that you reccomend best for a 4 year old? She cannot (or

atleast I don't think she can) swallow pills. She wanted her to start out with

200mg. Thank you so much for your help!

We used the NOW brand.  Just straigt mag cit.  I mixed it in juice.  Our ped

said to start with 1/3 of the adult dose.  don't remember exactly now what

that was.  at the time we were corn free so i could not use anything flavored.

There are so many types of magnesium, just make sure it is mag citrate if  you

are using it for bowel issues.  it is a form of mag not easily absorb therefore

it works like a laxative or like miralax.

We take Magnesium Citrate from Swanson vitamins. It's cheap but good. You know

with all the supplements we give to our kids anything that saves us money its

great. We give our son 250 mg, just make sure to give him calcium on a 2:1

ratio, that is if you give your child 250 mg he should be getting at least 500

mg of calcium . That is because usually calcium and magnesium compete each other

and if you have to much of one the other one will not be absorbed by the body.

Leaky guts have difficulty absorbing nutrients so you want to give the most

easily absorbed minerals like Calcium citrate.

while i think that is true for most mag given and reasons, I am  not sure that

is true for mag cit given for constipation.  I would have had to give ALOT of

calcium for the amt of mag citrate my son was on.  Separately I was giving him

cal with a different form of mag that is more absorbable (sp?)

When we put our son on mag cit per our MD/ped's advice he did not instruct to

increase calcium.  (he did later recommend giving more calcuim when i put my son

on GFCF diet).

Perhaps someone else can chim in here?

I thought magnesium citrate was a well-absorbed form. I just googled it

and this article

_http://www.cmellc.com/geriatrictimes/g020208.html_

says it is -- at least much more well-absorbed than magnesium oxide.

If I took magnesium citrate, I would have diarrhea because I'm sensitive to

it.

I think magnesium oxide and mild of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) are the

least well absorbed.
