I'm looking for some chiropracters, doctors, natural paths, etc in the Detroit

area that could help a new mom with a baby that has colic, reflux, etc.

Also, any good websites, books, etc that mom could look at to help her baby

would be helpful.

Thank you!!

The biggies would be making sure the baby only has breast milk (no iron drops,

etc, and NO formula!), and making sure the mom gets allergens out of her diet

100%. Probiotics can also be very helpful- for both mom and baby, but

especially baby. A friend of mine colonized her nipples with probiotics and it

helped a lot. Another friend has had success by taking pancreatic enzymes

herself.

Here is an article that just came out a couple days ago on Gerd.

For my son, his reflux was due to allergies to many of the things he was

ingesting. Gluten, Dairy, Corn and Soy were all issues for him. I would start to

eliminate each of those one at a time. Gluten was what caused my son to vomit

for the first 17 months of his life. A nutritionist, not a doctor (we went

through 10 specialists) was who helped me with his reflux. If she can find a

good nutritionist she/he can help her with the baby.

HTH,

Hang in there - a colicky baby can be trying at times - speaking from

experience! There is help and it can get better. I know you are in Detroit -

my recommendation is in Boulder,CO. Judy Converse, MPH,RD,LD - she conducts

phone consults with parents all over the country. She has helped 100's of kids

over the past 10 years. I can't say enough good things about her.

www.nutritioncare.net Best of luck with this process with your child - keep a

positive out look and lots of love in your heart - it will get better. Be

Well,Beth

" COLIC (INFANTILE)

Infantile colic is common, occurring in approximately 1 in 10 babies. Colic is

thought to be due to spasms in the intestines. The baby usually cries, turns

red in the face, may pass gas and draws up the legs. If the baby runs a fever

or becomes ill with bouts of colic, a doctor should be consulted. Over

stimulation, rapid changes, coupled with the anxiety of the parents will make

the child even more irritable. Recommendations include creating a calm, quiet

environment during and following mealtimes. Nursing mothers should omit foods

that they are eating that may be contributing to GI irritability in their

infants, i.e. onions, wheat, dairy products, broccoli, and administering

digestive enzymes to the infant and mother before feeding times.

Suggestions: 1/2 - 3/4 cap of Digest mixed in tepid water through a syringe into

the child's mouth with every meal or bottle. If results are not satisfying,

increase dosage or repeat as often as needed

Nursing Mothers: 1 Digest Gold with meals and before feedings

Rashes: If a rash develops, Mother should add 2 Candidase 3x per day to her

diet. (Infant under 2 add 1/3 –1/2 cap Lacto 2x per day between meals)

*NOTE: Do not mix enzymes with milk or formula, as the enzymes will begin to

hydrolyze it, which isn't very appetizing; give to infant before the child

ingests any food. "

Hope this information helps! If you go to

http://www.enzymestuff.com/basicsdosing.htm and hit ctrl F. Then type in the

word lacto, you will find some comforting reasons to start with Lacto. If you

have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
