Do they look like coffee grounds? If so, that's an indication of an upper GI

bleed.

Do you eat flax seeds? I've found that they'll come right out... (sorry

TMI!)

I'm sure there are other causes, but this is all I know of.

Pears can cause this. So can bacteria die off. Oxalates also.

I believe it can be die off from parasites, existance of parasites, or

yeast. Beth

No, not like coffee grounds, or seeds at all. Like tiny rectangular

segments. Some look separate and some look attached to each other in

strands. They are always black, or some dark color.

Too bad we can't draw in email!

My grandson has these black flecks in his stool and it is also yellow

in color and watery. He is on Diflucan and probiotics. Is there

anything I can give him to help with the watery stools? Its becoming a

problem since he can't get to the bathroom in time.

given several hours apart? is this not correct?

Is he taking Prevacid Solutabs by any chance? I have heard from some

friends that they see the black beads from the solutabs in their child's

stomach contents (if they are tube fed) and also in their stools. For some

reason, it seems to only happen with the solutabs though. I don't have any

other ideas for you though, since he is not on any solid foods yet. Hope

this helps and I hope you figure out what it is soon.

Random question - has anyone every encountered black flecks (looks EXACTLY

like pepper) in their baby's poopy diapers? It's not blood - the pedi and GI

have both tested it and found no traces of blood. But neither doc has a clue

what it could be either. My son is exclusively breastfed and does not get

any solid food yet, not even rice cereal. The black flecks are in his stools

throughout the day, though they do go away for a few days sometimes but

always reappear. This has been gping on for a couple months. Thanks for any

insight!

FYI, Prevacid solutabs have DAIRY! for those of you whose children are

allergic to dairy. It has lactose in it, which can and usually does

contain milk protein, even " medical-grade lactose " . My child had a severe

allergic reaction to the solutabs and that is how we looked up the

ingredients. I check every medication very carefully now, especially the

" inactive ingredients " . It is on an individual basis, but I only have one

dairy-allergic child who can handle the lactose in medications, the others

do not.

Could this be contributing to his reflux? Otherwise, I have no input

because I have not seen the " black flecks " before--just GI bleeding in my

kids.

He takes Nexium rather than Prevacid because of severe dairy intolerance. I've

been wondering if it could be the Nexium but he has black flecked poops all day

and was only getting Nexium in the morning. Plus the flecks look a little bigger

than the Nexium granules. Our GIs had no response when I asked if it could be

Nexium, they sorta shrugged.

Thanks for the suggestion!
