Many of these kids have issues with heavy metals, many times they need chelation before the gut will truly heal Is there a test that is taken to find out of your child NEEDS enzymes, has leaky gut syndrome is not absorbing food correctly? Or are we all going with our mom/dad instincts (since pedes aren't helping much!) and trying to see what our children are lacking? >>I think everybody on the planet would benefit from using digestive enzymes, they are inexpensive and very safe. A CDSA stool test I think will show whether there is particularly poor digestion but I think a trial would be more informative And one last question: If a child takes enzymes, is it necessary to put them on a strict diet like gf/cf or the SCD diet along with it or do the enzymes help take care of that? >>For many the enzymes alleviate the need for very restrictive diets, others do well on both or even just removing a few offending foods. Tomatoes and oranges are common ones. Its important to avoid artificial colors, Aspartame, MSG and reduce sugar in diet. Some kids like mine did better when we switched from GFCF to HNI enzymes, removed all chocolate plus the above MSG aspartame etc When I read Michele's post today about being on the fence, I figured it best to get the reasoning behind why you(we) are trying these things. >>>You can start with diets or enzymes, keep detailed notes and look for patterns in behaviours, poos, sleep etc over time. With HNI enzymes, he tolerated most foods, altho not all. > Is it to help them better digest food and therefore absorb nutrients > and feed their brains? Yes > Is it to heal the leaky gut syndrome? It was part of my son's protocol to heal his gut, but he needed other things also. > And one last question: If a child takes enzymes, is it necessary to > put them on a strict diet like gf/cf or the SCD diet along with it or > do the enzymes help take care of that? Depends on the child. My son still did not tolerate rice, corn, anything orange or green, or fats, even with enzymes. Those intolerances required other things to correct them.
