Guest guest
Hi Listmates, I wonder if anyone have had similar experience like mine: My son has been on Diflucan for antifungal for just over 2 months. During these 2 months I have tried introducing some new (and resumed old suppls that he use to tolerate before)suppls and I suspect my son has developed some sort of fat intolerance. I have tried introducing Vit E, Vit D, and also re-introduce fish oil and cod liver oil; but on each occassion, my son seems intolerant of these supps (symptoms are: Vit D and E both gave him a hard time as evidence by increased stims, high-pitched screaming; CLO and fish oil caused tummy ache/ stomache upset - tummy was very bloated and hard though BM appeared normal). He used to take CLO and fish oil with no problem in the past (in fact fish oil was the first supp we found helped calm him down). AT first I could not figure out what the problem was, but then I realised all these suppls are oil-based; so I suspect it could be some sort of fat intolerance. My son's most recent CDSA shows that he has deficient slgA, low butyrate (my naturopath says that this indicates a need for lipase enzyme to aid fat digestion). Has anyone come across this before? Does any one has any idea what could have gone wrong here? Many thanks for your input
Guest guest
, when we first started fish oil, my son would get very gassy and had a lot of stomach discomfort. We then added lipase and digestive enzymes (Zyme Prime) and it took care of issues. Our experience is not with Duflican but rather with lipase and enzyme and these do work for us. Guest guest
Well I am going to be following this thread with great interest because it seems my son may have a similar issues that is the source of a major regression. At his DAN's advice, I introduced K, E, D, and he had some behaviors and for some reason started to have anxiety and stopped playing with kids/toys. I wish I stopped giving them but did not. Instead I actually did the worst thing I probably could have ... I gave him 50,000 iu of A three times over three weeks (DAN said to for high measles titer even though he showed almost high blood A). Well, he had the worst regression and is still not back to baseline. It is heartbreaking. From my notes it all ties in with the fat soluable vitamins, but I can't figure out what the issue is or how to fix it. I was giving him the supplements with a digestive enzyme. And curiously, I started gut herbs at the same time. So my advice would be to STOP the supplements and figure out the issue. Don't push on. And if anyone knows what to do please share because it is heartbreaking to me that the one thing my son used to like (trying to play and play with other kids) is now gone ... he just sits with a pillow or his shirt over his face now trying to get me to leave. Diflucan is hard on the liver. What are you using for liver support? My son needed mito cocktail before he tolerated fats. I wrote about it here http://www.danasview.net/mar05.htm > My son's most recent CDSA shows that he has deficient slgA, low butyrate (my naturopath says that this indicates a need for lipase enzyme to aid fat digestion). Some kids will do okay with lipase enzyme, but my son needed mito cocktail. Dana
Guest guest
Is he by any chance allergic to soy. My nt food allergy guy, highly allergic to soy/peanuts, would have this reaction. Soy/peanuts part of the legume family so that could also include peas/beans. I hope you solve your mystery. Tammy fat intolerance after starting antifungal? Guest guest
Many of our kids don't tolerate the fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins right away. My son needed Carnitine in order to process them. Dana's website www.danasview.net is very helpful in explaining supplements that go together, what to do if supplement intolerance, what supplements are for what symptoms, etc. > > Hi Listmates, > > I wonder if anyone have had similar experience like mine: > > My son has been on Diflucan for antifungal for just over 2 months. Guest guest
Just a note, Carnitine is part of the mito cocktail and my son didn't tolerate the other ingredients of the cocktail, but was able to process fats with just carnitine given with them. The mito cocktail seems to work well for a lot of kids though. There is a new supplement at Kirkman Labs called Mito Cell support and I have a friend that is ranting and raving about how great it is. > > My son has been on Diflucan for antifungal for just over 2 months. Guest guest
My son had normal carnitine levels on his latest lab about two months ago. Might he still need more? Is there anything you can do to reverse damage from giving too many fat soluable vitamins. The play regression is horrid and behaviors such as tearing and ocd are at an all time high. Something got thrown horribly off in him. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi , is the cod liver oil and vitamin E soy free? Soy caused these kinds of reactions in my son. Is he swallowing pills? Can you get Vitamin C, magnesium, zinc, and Vit b complex into him? (They could all go in a smoothie probably) I think this would help and I would do small amount with meals 3X day. I would just skip the oils for a week. Then when starting the oils back up the next week, give carnitine with them (start one at a time and note the reaction). If it were my son, this is what I would do. Then I would start chelating because that helped my son tremendously in all areas including tolerance of more foods and supplements. Guest guest
Hi , we use Lipase Concentrate-HP by Tyler (1 capsule x 2 per day). We get it (as well as a bunch of his other supplements) at Village Green Apothecary http://www.the-apothecary.com/ They have very helpful staff. So if you cannot find something on the web, just give them a call.
