Guest guest
Hi All - I need advice on where to start with Enzymes with my son. Backround - My DS is almost 3, diagnosed with ASD (high functioning) and has been on a GFCF diet for 13 months. We have another DS, 16 months old, that has just started EI therapies. I just stopped the GFCF diet about 10 days ago for my 3 yr old, and then 3 days ago started to use Enzymes (NOW Brand, Called Gluten Digest contains BioCor D P P IV)I got at a local health food store. I have since tried to go back to GFCF diet while in the beginning stages of the enzymes since I am not sure what is causing his problems. Here are my questions... 1) His stools were GREAT after stopping the diet, then changed to complete Water. I started the enzymes and he still has loose stools, not so much water but very frequent. I think the stools smell (sorry - TMI) like his toasted Gluten Free Bread. Is this a sign it is working/ also eliminating Yeast since it has a bread smell? 2) How soon could I try adding in some foods that have Gluten? 3) I should also get a lactase enzyme? 4) Can I start with these Enzymes and then change to more expensive ones (they were sold out at the store) without going through adjustments again? 5) I got the book Enzymes for Autism and skimmed through it... I am looking for a step by step process. Can someone do that for me? I know that each case is different, but I feel like I am jumping in a lake without knowing how to swim... 6) While my goal is the improvement of my DS, my other goal is to get OFF the GFCF Diet, at least temporarily. My son is a terrible eater and once I get him eating better I plan to try and go back to the diet. This is just more of a comment than a question. Please help with any advice... Thanks -

While he is still eating gluten, you might have a celiac test done. > 4) Can I start with these Enzymes and then change to more expensive > ones (they were sold out at the store) without going through > adjustments again? Sometimes you will have an adjustment period when switching from one type of enzyme to another. Dana
Guest guest
Hi 1 & 2- Try Enzymedica's GlutenEase. Diet is important but for parents who are unable to have their little ones diet at the moment, they have found GlutenEase to work great. I can send you out some samples of this! 3) I would use Enzymedica's DigestGold. It is a broad spectrum enzyme that has lactase in the formula along with other enzymes to digest your entire meal. 4)You can use the enzymes you have but just note that it doesn't digest the entire meal because it doesn't have enzymes like Lipase for fats or lactase for dairy. It isn't very potent either but you can double up ont he capsules you take. 5)This will help you with your dosing. http://www.enzymestuff.com/basicsdosing.htm but you can also call Enzymedica for additional help. 6) While Enzymedica does promote diet first, we have seen parents been able to come off the GFCF diet with DigestGold and GlutenEase. Of course, every child is different. Please feel free to contact me for samples and information or if you have questions. It was the watery diarrhea that made me think of celiac. I don't know the answers to your specific questions, sorry. You should probably contact the doctor who tested your other child, see what information he has. Dana
