I have thyroiditis and adrenal issues- The tests always say on the low side of normal for me too. But my nutritionist says that some people can really feel if their thyroid is not functioning right and it bothers them hormonally and affects their adrenals and makes you obsessive and scared- that is where I am at and I just had to start my Paxil again and Ativan for anxiety. My psychiatrist mentioned about omega 3's and that sometimes they help people. I will try them- i just had my gallbladder out last Friday so have to watch fat intake for a little bit. I know there are a lot of supplements out there that are natural for antidepressants but alot conflict with taking at the same time as antidepressants. Paxil is so hard to come off of- when I don't take it I get a zap feeling throughout my system (as do most people) so had to go back on it for now. If the Zoloft is working for you stay on it and talk to your doctor about maybe trying an antidepressant that doesn't cause so much weight gain. Also maybe ask about a trial of synthroid or something like that at your doctor because maybe you do need a boost to your thyroid. Please write back as I am really in the same boat and don't want to be on the Paxil either. I just got my thyroid tested yesterday so waiting for the results. I am supposed to do a 24 hour urine collection for my adrenal function that tests how it is effecting neurotransmitters. If you are curious about this test I have more info on what it is testing for. I think it will find something- but, my doctor thinks it will be fine- but something with my adrenals is not working as it has been messed up in the past. i am bummed that I have to wait another week to do the urine test. Got my period today- bummer but I actually feel better hormonally when I get it. I am a mess prior to then. There are a lot of supplements out there for adrenals. I thought I had a good one from my doctor but now I see it has soy and I am trying to avoid soy because of my thyroid issues and soy has too much estrogen. Well talk to you soon, Thanks, Wanda
Guest guest
I am considering SAM-e. Like someone else mentioned, you can't try anything that is a natural antidepressant (st johns, SAM-e, 5HTP) while you are on a Rx or even a few weeks after so keep that in mind. I tried st johns wort earlier and it helped in ways but in ways it made me more hormonal so I stopped. > > This post is for myself (for a change). Iodine may occasionally cause an allergic reaction in some individuals. Folinic acid supplementation is not recommended concurrently with methotrexate cancer therapy, as it can interfere with methotrexate's anti-neoplastic activity; however, folinic acid has not been shown to interfere with the anti-inflammatory activity of methotrexate. A patient taking methotrexate for psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, or juvenile rheumatoid arthritis can safely take a folate supplement. INTERACTIONS The use of St. 's Wort is contraindicated while taking cyclosporine, digoxin, HIV non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, irinotecan and anticoagulant drugs. St. 's Wort is a known inducer of cytochrome p450 (3A4) and thus can reduce blood levels of medications that are metabolized via this enzyme. It is possible that 5-hydroxytryptophan, when taken in combination with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant such as Paxil®, Prozac®, or Zoloft®, may cause a condition known as serotonin syndrome. Folinic acid supplementation is not recommended concurrently with methotrexate cancer therapy, as it can interfere with methotrexate's anti-neoplastic activity. PREGNANCY WARNING A woman who is pregnant, or who might become pregnant, should not use Deproloft. Deproloft is specifically contraindicated during pregnancy. Some women may reduce their risk of having a child with birth defects of the brain and spinal cord by maintaining adequate intakes of folate during their childbearing years. The safe upper limit of daily intake value of folate is 1,000 mcg. Folate needs to be consumed as part of a woman's healthful diet. If he had a bad day, I would blame myself, some med I picked or didn't pick for him, so I too would have a bad day. If he had a good day, I would feel a lot better, but I was constantly worried about what to give him and wanted things to work like yesterday! I started to feel lilke maybe I was making him worse, instead of better and second guessing everything, until I felt unsure about EVERYTHING! It is definitely better since starting the Zoloft. Guest guest
Have you heard of Bach Flowers? They have a product called Rescue Remedy that is for anxiety that you can get in health food stores but I had someone make up my own custom Bach Flowers. My whole family just loves them - sounds nutty that flower essences will calm you but I swear they do work. You could check the Bach Flowers website to see if there is someone near you who could give you the checklist to make a custom product, or just try Rescue Remedy. I have had some unlikely people tell me that they are also using this and how much they like it. --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
I would start loading the magnesium daily!! As far as hormonal, I have heard many times of wild yam!! It does apparently come in supplement form. I personally haven used(am going to check into it) but know this is supposed to be very good for the hormones!! Also getting an organic green blend(powder form) is very good for the natural seratonin(dark green foods are best) along with many other beneficial health! My son was borned disabled, blinded the first year of life, kidney surgery, seizures etc. etc. I was able to handle all of his first 5yrs pretty well until the vaccine shots at 5yrs old. Our family lives feel apart! He was sooo ill etc. I actually lost weight without trying(20lbs) just over the trauma, I have never lost weight without trying in my life! 3yrs later, much better(the darn weight is even back:), I just made small adjustments in our family eating. Rare eating out, slowly took junk out(some is still there:). Lessoned the tap water(loaded with clorine and lots of crap, use spring water) Started adding supplements not only for our son but us as well!! Aloe vera juice is also a natural calmer. I take befor bed and this helps with the sleep/tossing nights! Things arent perfect, but we arent spiraling down hill no more, we are moving uphill finally!! As far as weight try adding green tea's/probiotics also!! Jennie<>< > > This post is for myself (for a change). Guest guest
I was feeling this way myself pretty bad. I have the symptoms of high blood histamine levels (which can be caused by under-methylation, this is genetically related to the spectrum), and am being tested, but to test myself I went on a low histamine diet and it has REALLY helped, plus my seasonal allergies are mostly gone. The symptoms that I (and my family) have are anxiety, depression, moodiness and mood swings, obsessive or compulsive tendencies, sometimes panic attacks, dizzyness, vision disturbances, seasonal allergies, insomnia and difficulty waking up, tired crashes during the day, craving sugar, problems with weight loss or weight gain, adrenal issues, asthma or breathing issues, heart racing or palpitations, and more. It can cause low seratonin levels and adrenal fatigue (adrenaline is what your body uses to counter the histamine). I would especially suspect this if your symptoms have gotten worse during spring, even if you don't have the signs of seasonal allergies. I haven't been thrilled with the info online about this- the histamine diet stuff is not consistent, so I am using trial and error. What's interesting to me is that how much I like a food is in direct relationship to how high it is in histamine. This can also be treated with supplements (I think B3 and C?), but I haven't researched it that much yet. 1000mgs of calcium and 250mg or more of B5 are good to support the adrenal gland, and isn't 5HTP good support for low seratonin? Good luck with this, please let us know what works for you! -Sierra > > > I can relate. > > New Chapter Rhodiola Force 100 (Rhodiola Rosea is an herb that boosts > seratonin levels), multivitamen, biotin, magnesium help me a lot. > > ************************************ > > So what kinds of things can I use naturally for anxiety, depression, > > hormonal type things? > > > > > Viola > > >

At my house, anti-virals [OLE, Virastop, vitamin C, and lysine], mB12/TMG/folic/carnitine, and yeast control [biotin and GSE] were very good for my son for obsessions, language, and social issues, and for another son and myself for anxiety and obsessions. Depression was helped by B50, fish oil, and SAMe. > So, the problem is that I am gaining weight no matter how hard I try > not to. Carnitine and digestive enzymes helped with that problem here. Guest guest
This may sound like something that won't work, but have you thought of trying yoga for both the anxiety and the weight gain. I've lost just about 30 pounds in the last year with a daily yoga practice. I also added meditation and I can tell you that it is great for reducing stress and anxiety and giving you an overall more peaceful life. The deep breathing exercises are also great for my daughter who has autism. Helps calm her down. B.
Guest guest
, My son has substantial depression and anxiety which has steadily been improving. Fish oil (Carlson x 3gelcaps x twice daily with enzymes) has helped a lot and also treatment to get rid of Candida (with Candidase: 3 capsules twice a day on an empty stomach) helps. I believe 's anxiety is related to certain foods which cause inflamation in his brain. I suspect dairy and maybe corn. When he eats pizza (try to keep an 18 yr. old from eating pizza when everyone else is eating it in Youth Group!) he gets very depressed and angry but when he has 2 or 3 capsules of enzymes, I see no such reaction. We also see a Chinese Medicine doctor (Dr. Harry Hong near Chicago) who has helped. (Not cheap, tho. Never is.) Guest guest
Viola, Join the crowd. If having an autistic kid doesn't make you depressed, you aren't human. My husband and I are both on a small dose of antidepressant. I used Lexapro but it is so expensive and now I use a very small amount of Celexa--I think that is the key to keeping the weight down--small doses. Also, I am now treating my own yeast (from the med?) with Candidase and am not constantly yearning to eat. Sally > > > > This post is for myself (for a change). Guest guest
Hi Viola, I didn't follow the whole thread, so forgive me if its a repeat, but I do really well on SAMe. As well as on an antidepressant. Good for you for taking care of yourself. We all need to do a better job of that, probably! Good luck,
Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this group and to enzymes. What is SAMe and what does it do? I'm also on an antidepressant. Guest guest
Hi, We use Sam-e on our 12 years old. He gets one 200mg tablet in the morning on an empty stomach every other day. We also use a product from Now call " True Calm " . We give this daily 2 hours before bed and on a as needed basis. We also use L-Theanine (Now brand) on an as needed basis if he is really anxiety ridden. We have found ours sons behaviors are closely linked to his bowel movements. The school thinks we are nuts, but it is true. Keep them regular. We have found powdered magnesium citrate (1/4 teaspoon) mixed in with 1 part apple juice(2oz), 1 part Aloe Vera juice (2oz)and 3 parts filtered water (6oz) given once or twice a day really helps keep things moving! Hope this helps a bit, Mike
