CoQ10 caused sleeplessness here. I think there's a certain time that you

shouldn't give it after but i'm soorry I don't remember what it is. We also

couldn't tolerate acetyl-l-carnitine and used l-carnitine. Hope that helps. good

luck.

Carnitine, lipoic acid and CoQ10

We decided to start our 6 year old on carnitine, lipoic acid and CoQ10

now that we and our son's doctor are pretty sure he has mitochondrial

dysfunction. He is getting 300 mg of acetyl-l-carnitine, 75 mg of the

lipoic acid and 30 mg of CoQ10 twice per day. Since we started it

almost three weeks ago we've seen some really neat gains. Our son

jumped up two levels in his reading at school, his focus is better and

he can sit down and complete a craft or play for extended periods on a

Nintendo DS. However, this week at school he's had a change in

personality such that he now is getting rough with his classmates and

has become defiant. He's never been like this before. He's also now

not sleeping as well. He seems to get up a couple of times a night

where he used to sleep right on through. He gets 5 ml of cod liver

oil each day along with a probiotic and Kirkman's Super Nu Thera. Are

we missing some complementary supplements? Any thoughts?

Thank you very much in advance for any help.

Ed

Do you think you may be stirring up metals with that rather large dose of lipoic

acid? We, too, use a mito cocktail but do not use the lipoic acid exc for

chelating on a very specific schedule.

How would I know if we are stirring up metals? Is there any way to test

with lab analysis of urine or blood?

Thanks

Here is what my son needed to correct that

The carnitine may tend to increase yeast. The ALA will definitely increase

yeast, as well as pull metals, and the dose you are giving is rather high,

especially as a starting dose. CoQ10 needs to be given with fatty food or EFA

supplement.

First, try increasing the yeast protocol.

A Hair Elements Test would tell you what metals you may be dealing with. How to

is here http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/ The files of

/ have much information. We

haven't had much success in catching either urine/stool that tested positive for

metals. We've just kept chelating based on improvements. As Dana suggests, 100mg

is a high dose! esp given at one time.
