My son has been on the Low Oxalate diet (in addition to GFCF) for 2 plus years.

Its been a big help. The diet can be tricky at first if your GFCF, but its

doable. Tyring Low Oxalates is a group with alot of good information.

Its a good starting point. The files section has info specifically related to

autism and oxalates.

Feel free to email me offline if you have any specific questions.

I know several people who have had good results with B6/magnesium, in reducing

oxalate issues.

Is oxalic acid and oxalates related at all, if so i was looking into parsley(as

well as some other herbs) at the weekend and it said calcium supplement will

help with oxalic acid, i am just not sure if the two are linked?

Good morning, ,

We are still battling Oxalate levels.

My son was at 208.89 (7/8/2009), 56.27 (9/22/09), 165.75 (12/8/2009), and 78.34

(3/2/2010).

I have shipped a new OATS this morning.

The main things that have helped us is Calcium/Magnesium supplement from

VitaminShoppe and B6/Magnesium supplement from Kirkman (I think).

I am also considering trying New Beginnings Calcium/Magnesium Chewable wafer.

The Yo-Yo results are because we take the Calcium/Magnesium out of the rotation

of supplements.

For us, everytime we take the calcium/magnesium out we see the oxalate increase.

Hope this helps.

The two are related. One produces the other. Calcium Citrate taken before meals

(30-45 minutes depending on the form you take) will bind oxlates. Parsley is

medium to high oxalate (depends on the soil conditions it came from).

My son has been on the Low Oxalate Diet for 2 plus years. The Trying Low

Oxalate Group is a very good resource. The Low Oxalate Cookbook 2 is

another good resource.

Wow, I didn't even know there was a low oxalate diet! I'm going to have to read

up on that. My sons lab work came back with high oxalates, but our Doc... kinda

stinks. She's very busy and overburdened so I think that has a lot to do with

it. She said we'd need to figure it out, and never mentioned it again.

A lot of the DANS! are not really up on the oxalate thing yet. My family has a

history of kidney stones so I was somewhat familiar with oxalates in that area.

Found the site by accident, and its been very helpful.

What is the group for oxalate issues? And do you know what test shows or

confirms a oxalate issue. I thought one of my little guys tests said it was an

issue for him but it was never addressed by the DAN's we've seen.

The group is Trying Low Oxalates. An Organic Acid Test will tell you if

oxalates are a problem.

My son had oxalate problems, and I found that diet isn't the only way to treat

it. Probiotics are extremely important, as the right ones will break down

oxalates in the gut. I think the bifidus family is important- especially

bifidus infantis, but you might want to double check that. Also, giving calcium

citrate before meals will help- the calcium bonds with the oxalate crystal and

keep it from being absorbed from the gut.

If there are oxalate issues, you may want to look into calcium use in the body,

and vitamin K2. An oxalate problem is a sign of a deeper imbalance in the body,

and while the low oxalate diet will help alleviate symptoms, it won't heal the

underlying problem.

True, the diet alone isnt the answer, but it is a big help.

We do alot of probiotics along with the diet and Cal Citrate. Magnesium Citrate

also binds oxalates as well. VSL 3 is the probiotic reccomended for oxalates,

and we use that in additon to others. Biotin, taurine and argnine are also very

helpful. We use Vit K2 as well but not in high doses.

It's not just oxalates,a lot of DAN!s get the reason there are high porphyrins

all wrong too.I'm still not sure why it is,but it ain't mercury in vaccines.

Yeah, both my kids' porphyrins and oxalates are way high. Strangely their metals

aren't. I do know though that the vaccines caused them to get ill in the first

place. It was very obvious every time I got them their shots. They got way high

fevers, rancid diareah etc...my son even went comatose for a few hours

Yes, it's a probiotic that has been very successful in helping deal with oxalate

issues.  It helps bind and break them down.

Yes. Specifically reccomended for oxalates. However, it does have a strep

strain (the capsules, not sure about the sachets) if that is a concern.
