He screams in pain when he bumps himself and he's more clutzy ... like when he was younger. He screams if I barely, barely brush his hair (he's not brushing it well). Also, he's having anger issues, probably pre-puberty related, but sometimes they turn into Asperger-style meltdowns that are quite scary. Both my son's had sensory and anger issues when bacteria was out of control. Joanne
Guest guest
I wish I had used enzymes as a child.I needed an enema every other day to have a BM.I wonder how much of my excessive stimming,OCDs,head banging,eloping/absence seizures,ad nauseum could have been improved, but nobody knew then. Guest guest
I've been on enzymes and probiotics, currently HLC Mindlinx, most of my life.My GI disease has always been poorly managed. It effected my development, and has kept me from gaining weight my entire life. I have all the usual deficiencies, only worse. This year,I have had a couple of very severe flares of GI disease with fever.I recently went completely off dairy, and suffered a major withdrawal and regression. As for answers,I'm still working on them. Guest guest
Hi, everyone. Thanks for all of your replies ... Here's an update on my son. I did use the feedback from some/all of you. Plus, added in my own stuff. Also, I have some NEW info that you might find very useful for your child regarding falling asleep at night (if he/she cannot do it without Melatonin): Update: - To address moods/meltdowns and new bedwetting (at age 12!), switched to Pearl xTreme probiotic (was taking regular Pearls). This was to address probable yeast. Had already added Biotin and Oregano Oil, but the xTreme probiotic took care of his mood/temperament issues and he hasn't wet the bed since. This was about 2 weeks ago, maybe more. Still goopy poop, though. - Started acupuncture with Chinese herbs to improve frequency of BMs and hoping to get away from goopy BMs. Was told to take them the evening of those days that he did not have a BM. But, next day was very bad ... major poop, goopy, then pure liquid diarrhea. Too strong. - Stopped taking Chinese herb, but continued acupuncture therapy. - Started taking DigestGold by Enzymatic. Saw improvements in the consistency of BMs next day. Only had one enzyme pill before each meal. - More acupuncture. Still only pooping every other day, but seeing that it was formed was good. No more goop! - Decided to increase DigestGold enzymes to 2 pills before each meal and cut back on Calcium/Magnesium at night (from 2 to 1 pill). Next day: Soft-looking, but formed, sausage-shaped, long BMs. Lighter brown color with specs of something in it. - To increase chances of a poop the next day, took half of a Chinese poop herb. It worked ... he had a BM the next day (instead of skipping that day), AND it was formed. Whoo-hoo!!! - Had cut back the probiotics last week to Pearls IC. But, saw mood issues and reverted back to Pearls xTreme. Seems to have resolved that mood ... along with getting more sleep. - Going into the holidays and son will be with Dad for the holidays. So, will pick back up with all of this next weeek. Note: we also gave up the Melatonin this week. My son started using a lights-sound sleep therapy machine. It is amazing. DO NOT USE if you have a history of seizures, epilepsy, etc. But, otherwise, really puts you to sleep and/or trains your mind to focus during the day! Ours is called the Proteus and was purchased for $159 (no shipping) from a company called Mind Modulations. They have a website (just add .com to the name ... no space in the name). We have not yet tried the neurofeedback/biofeedback options on it (hook to computer to run these). I would be curious if anybody else has. But, this is a totally AWESOME experience to use this thing. Feels like a high, like drugs, but I have never been on drugs (just imagining it). The unit has many different session choices built-in ... the sleep ones are incredibly relaxing. My son falls asleep within 10-20 minutes at most with NO Melatonin and only 1 Calcium/Magnesium pill (which might not be needed, but I like him to take it anyway for the Magnesium). > > This is as brief of a history as I can give you to help you answer my question about my son's ability to have BMs. > > The birth of my son was difficult. Somehow the Essiac (FlorEssence) got him jump-started, probably by stimulating the liver (I think that's what he said). > > Herbals were given and we followed the protocol of no dairy and other things. Three months later, he was doing better so we stopped seeing the holistic M.D. and stopped talking all of the herbals. We were tired of it and the holistic doc was kind of not wanting us to stop seeing him, though. > > We moved to another state and lots happened. But, fast forward to this year. > > We noticed accidentally around age 8 or 9 (I can't remember which) that he seemed ok with milk (didn't have the major gasiness from it or bloated stomach anymore whereas he did have it earlier). This coincidentally was around the time that he had completed about 2 years of using a product for his OCD (that eventually went " dormant " ) called NerveTonic. NerveTonic has 3 biochemic mineral salts and was excellent at stopping him from " counting " things. It has these three ingredients: Ferrum Phosphoricum, Kalium Phosphate, and Magnesium Phospate. He also was taking Digestive Tonic about the same time, but that was gradually tapered off. Those ingredients were: Kalium Phosphate, Natrium Phosphate, and Calcium Phosphate. > > He stayed pretty stable from about age 9-11 without any sort of food modifications or limitations. No vitamins and no supplements. No OCD counting, although I did have a hypnotist work on his habit of tapping (not counting) every syllable you would say (at least he wasn't counting every syllable you said like he did when he was 7). The hypnotist undid the tapping stuff and it's never come back. > > My son is 12 now. At the beginning of 2009 when he was still 11, he had another one of those " sleep funks " that felt AWFULLY familiar to me .... like the " mono-like " illness one that went on for 6 weeks when he was age 4. He was out of school for a week. After about 3 days of him sleeping and no other symptoms except extreme fatigue, I found FlorEssence at our local Whole Foods store and got him out of his sleep funk within 2-3 days. I continued him on it for about 2 weeks. > > We went back to our normal lives eating anything and drinking anything, no limitations. By late April of this year, it happened again. Sleep funk. Dang it! So, I brought him into the ped. The ped said to get him off of all dairy and ordered an xray of his gut. Son was totally " FOC " (full of cr & p) (this is the ped's acronym, not mine!). My son was backed up as far as you could go. He said worst case he'd seen. > > I did the FlorEssence (doc was fine with that), but he also wanted Miralax. We did that for some time, but I didn't like that he seemed to need Miralax and for the rest of his life? > > Coincidentally, I found out that I could take Calcium/Magnesium at night to calm me and help me feel sleepy earlier. I decided to give him some of it because he was taking 2 mg. of melatonin each night and I thought it would be healthier to reduce him to 1 mg. of melatonin and use Calcium (w/Mag.) instead. It really made him go poop, so I decided we'd go off of the Miralax and just use this serendipitous finding of the Calcium/Magnesium. He also was taking the digestive tonic again and I started him on Vitamin D (5K iu's a day as a way to improve immune system and also as a natural chelator) and added in Coromega (Omega3) and Pearl Acidophilus. > > He was doing great for about a month or so. Formed BMs and they were coming out EVERYDAY. Now, with Miralax he was going everyday, too, which is what the ped wanted. But, this was healthier and he was having formed stools. > > Well, then he degraded to not formed, very goopy stools. Still going everyday though. We backed off of the digestive tonic thinking that maybe that was making things goopy. Not sure if that did anything except stop him from going everyday. So, now he's back to his old habit of going every other day or maybe every 3rd day, but it's goopy every time. > > I also have him on Biotin and Oregano Oil. He is still not eating dairy except I think his dad sneaks it in occasionally (as a cheese) when he's visiting him. > > Anyone have any ideas on what I should do? I really want him going everyday and want those BM's to be formed again. > > Also, his sensory stuff is in regression. Over the past 5 years, he would have 1 a year, but this year I've lost count. Probably one a month on average. And, that's going back to the beginning of the year when he had his first sleep funk in a very long time. > > I have to think all of this is related somehow. I am wondering if I should just put him on some sort of digestive Enzyme instead, but I have no idea what and I find it all VERY confusing when I read about it. > > Thanks for reading this rather long post! > > Mira > Single/divorced Mom of 2 > Younger one has congenital Chiari Malformation Type I > Got my hands full! > > p.s. I think his father is also some version of Aspergers, but he's never been diagnosed. He just fits the profile now that I know what Aspergers is. >
