Guest guest
My 11 yr. old ds is raging now and I don't know why. He started 10 days ago on 100mg SAM-e and was tantrum-free for 10 days. Then, 3 days ago we started on 200mg. Today he has had 2 tantrums and is raging now because I " gave him a choice between 2 things. " Apparently I should know that he can't make choices. He was completely calm before this happened. He had just had his evening compounded vitamins (from Pfeiffer) and his CLO and Nystatin for yeast issues. He's been on Nystatin or Diflucan since July...mostly Nystatin. I don't think it's die off at this point. He had complained yesterday of getting a bad stomach ache after GABA so last night I didn't give it to him and then he had a tantrum this morning. So I gave him GABA after that and I am about to give it to him now. We are going to have to phase it out because the stomach aches are becoming bad even when he takes it with food. We will switch to Inositol. He had tried it in July but it kept him awake so I'm not sure how he will tolerate it but I'm willing to give it a try as I understand it helps with OCD which he has had since May. I know I'm rambling but I am wondering if any of this will trigger a thought in any of you that could help him. Tomorrow he has a half day at school and is then on break for 3 weeks. So if he is having a problem with the 200 mg of SAM-e we can still try to stay on it for a few more days and see how he does. We genuinely saw an improvement on the 100 mg and the doctor feels that he should take 200- 400 mg for his weight. So I want to give the 200 mg a chance. What do you all think? Has anyone had this happen with increasing SAM-e? Or is it just that he missed the GABA last night? God, I was just starting to feel we had a Christmas miracle on our hands and now this. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Try dropping it for a day or two, then go back to the previous dose. >>I understand it helps > with OCD At my house, OCD was mostly viral, altho yeast and B vitamin deficiency also contributed. Guest guest
We use SAM-e to address high histamine levels, which causes one of my kids to rage. We noticed that the histamine seemed to cause his symptoms to flare as it came back out through his system. This could be a good sign that it is working, but you could reduce again and bring it out more slowly if the raging is too much to take. Vitamin C helps with this for us, and so does calcium (the calcium pulls the histamine out of the tissues and the vitamin C flushes it out of the body). You can also avoid high histamine foods such as tomatoes, berries and seafood at this time since his system may be overwhelmed with amines. BTW, I just read in the Gut and Psychology Syndrome book that some bacteria in the gut produce histamine and that this can be the cause of high histamine levels in the blood and all the problems that go along with that.
