Guest guest
Hi All, I know the board has posted on this before but I was wondering if anyone else has had serious growth issues. My son is on SCD, many supplements, antifungals and Valtrex. He has not really grown or gained weight since he was 18 months, he is now about 30 months. His thyroid and growth hormones all look ok. All bloodwork looks ok except elevated BUN (which we think is due to so much protein in diet). His cortisol levels are ok too. If anyone else has been successful getting their child to grow and gain weight I would really like to hear what you tried. Thanks,
Guest guest
jason, my daughter was the same way, she is now 5, and from 3 to five years old she did gain alittle in height, but no weight. ONly now is she gaining, after we put her on GFCF, and figured out she had very high metabolism. She was just burning thru her food so fast that some mornings we would find her sugar very very low. So you may want to check into metabolism issues. We have to feed her high protein somewhat fatty before bed, to keep her sugar stable thru the night, and one of our favorite things are extend bars. HIgh protein, low glycemic, but made in a way to keep her sugar stable thru the night so her body doesn't eat from her own fat stores. They also have GF and CF which is great. I think the website is www.extendbar.com I think. And we really like them. I too eat them, and have lost 40 pounds, using them as a snack instead of a cookie, and the net carb that effects the bad sugar is either only 1 or 2, and have a good amount of fiber too.. But they work great for my daughter keeping her Glucose level high for a good time, so she is not burning her own fat anymore. Guest guest
Same here.. My son is now 27 months and he did not gain even 1 ounce since he was 12 months old. We are doign GFCF and all supplements, antifungal, B12. I read online that B12 injections are used for weight loss, so I am wondering. If you find anything let me know. Thanks, Maya > > Hi All, > > I know the board has posted on this before but I was wondering if > anyone else has had serious growth issues. Guest guest
Maya, When you wrote about the B12 injections it just hit me....We started giving my son the MB12 injections a month ago and he has grown so much in this short amount of time! Prior to that, we were concerned that he wasn't growing. It could just be a growth spurt or coincidence but, maybe it's the shots....We have seen huge improvements with the MB12 (eye contact, responsiveness, social interaction, and overall awareness). mywonderbaby wrote: > > Same here.. Guest guest
Yes I totally understand that, I'm sorry, I just sharing why our daughter was not gaining weight, and what has helped us in her incidents of morning comatose low blood sugar. WE have found so much helpful information on this sight, and it is not a one for all item. We all have different issues, and cannot all be taylored to the same. BUt there is info for many instances in the Autism spectrum. It was the first time I was able to answer a possible cause, that we deal with daily. I am not an expert on all of these things like yourself, fairly new to the post, just experienced in what we have dealt with personally ..... And thought I could give a possible reason why, since we doctored for 4 years before we found out. .. Carnitine and other aminos were essential for one of my kids for this problem. > His thyroid and growth hormones all look ok. All bloodwork looks ok > except elevated BUN (which we think is due to so much protein in > diet). His cortisol levels are ok too. He might not be breaking down the protein into the aminos. Try giving a separate amino supplement, and an enzyme to break down the proteins. Plus add some carnitine. Dana
Guest guest
I am so sorry if I offended you or upset you. I just wanted to point that out in case someone was considering this but has trouble with soy. My daughter too has major weight gain issues. She is tube fed a blenderized whole foods diet because she is so sensitive. She is a little person(by that I mean she has some unknown form of dwarfism), none the less she hasn't gained any weight in 3 years. She gains well between illnesses and then loses it all when she is sick, which is around 30-50 times a year. What works for her is Vance's Dari-free powder added to her food. It is 70 calories per tbsp. Or oil which is 120 calories per tblsp. We also use Walnuts in her blended food for protein and fat. Not everyone would tolerate these things though. -Undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome Stay at home mom to 3, Wife to -6-6-02-Autism Spectrum, the light of my life Katy-11-19-03-undiagnosed genetic syndrome that includes cleft palate-Pierre Robin Sequence, scoliosis, heart defects, short stature, low muscle tone, developmental delay, oral defensiveness, g tube fed part time-working on oral feeding, slightly dysmorphic features, and my joy J.D-no issues except he is totally in love with mommy, cutest baby in the world visit my blog http://busiestmommyinamerica.blogspot.com " If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart!
