[ ] Checking in...

Hi ,Here I am - checking in. I've been trying to get to the board every couple of days to see how folks are doing. I've been doing wonderful. There is life after treatment! The weather has been really nice in No. California - so I've been spending as much time as possible out in it! My boyfriend's 12 year old daughter is visiting right now from out of state - so we've been on the go times 10 :) Today we went to Muir Woods so she could see the Coastal Redwoods up close, then we went to Stinson Beach and north up the coast a ways - the drive was absolutely beautiful. The beauty of the Northern Coastline and the Redwoods is undescribable. It's one of my very favorite places.Tomorrow we will go to San Francisco to see a show and then it's back to work for me on Monday. My last shot on treatment was on April 26. My energy level immediately started to return - within a couple of weeks I was back to 'normal'. Now my hair is coming back in and it's soft and shiny again. I even have a sparkle in my and a glow to my skin. I stopped taking all supplements as well. I haven't even called the doctorsince I finished treatment, but will have my 6 month post tx PCR done in November. I don't feel like the virus has returned and God willing it won't. I don't know if I'd do standard treatment again. Even though I sailed through it compared to most folks - I'm just not sick enough (or willing enough) to do it again at this point.I hope you are doing well. Please know that I will post my next PCR results to the board once I know them.Take good care,Grace> DCP........Please keep out of this! I enjoy listening to intellegent people, not ignorant people such as yourself. There are many of us out here who like to hear both sides of the story. We have some very bright people in this group and is most informative when people who are knowledgeable give us what they have learned in their studies and their own treatment. Arguments and name calling is not necessary DCP. Satya, Andy, Karyn, Grace......etc Please let us know how you are doing?? You too ! Love,

You've got it right...exercise and being prepared with food for when

there isn't any you can handle. But at this point you should be able

to eat most things, I'd guess.

I've always wanted to go to Israel, and one of these days I'll make

it, though not likely for work.

Oh yeah....be sure to get up and walk a lot on the plane...every

chance you get. I had two flights yesterday, but fairly short, only a

half hour and a two hour. But I had long waits, and spent two hours

walking almost continuously around the concourses in SFO.

I don't think I was talking about being dizzy, the

Cheryl, what wonderful news that you all are

doing well. AND…how

exciting for your daughter’s graduation…AND Randy, CONGRATULATIONS

for being a first time father! That

is so very special!

I will remember this young man and Mom who are going through the liver

surgery. How exciting that his Mom

can give him the gift of life twice! It is awesome.

So good to hear from you!

[ ] Checking

in...

Hello Everyone!

Checking in..... we, too, had

snow beginning on Saturday thru Monday. All my beautiful flowers

are now gone but at least the yard is nice and green. Still lots of rain

predicted for the rest of the week.. at least that keeps me

from having to mow the lawn right now-LOL.

The weather has been off and on warm

and we have gotten a couple of days of fishing in. Randy and I continue

to do well and we are anxiously awaiting our daughter's graduation from high school

in May. (FYI-- Randy adopted in April and became a first time proud

Dad at 51). Today we are off to visit another college as she has not made

up her mind as to which college she wants to attend.

This past weekend, the three of us

visited a family whose son is sick with liver disease. Tomorrow the

mother will be her son's living donor. Please keep them in your thoughts

and prayers. We will be going to visit them in the hospital this week-end

during their recovery.

The son was very happy to meet Randy

and had a zillion questions for us. I think it put his mind somewhat at

ease to see you can do well post transplant. Randy and him engaged in

some pretty indepth scientific discussions and he was happy to see that Randy's

transplant did not cause problems in his career. The son is a sprite 23

with a bright future ahead of him.

That's about it for now from up in

the mountains of WV...

Hi ,

I'm sorry for your loss, please know you and your Mom were- and are-

in my prayers.

Maybe you could do an inventory of your Mom's apt. and decide what you

could donate to some charity. Then, contact that charity and recruit

help in removing those items. That may reduce your work load. Also,

someone in their work crew might be able to help you move the rest of

the items. It's an idea.

In my area, most folks have an auction- after removing the items they

want. The auctioneers here are very helpful with these sales- in a

way they have to be. If the grieving family was 'taken advantage of'

that auctioneer would not have any business. Folks show up for two

reasons- first to help the family raise money, second to get some

memento of the friend they just lost. It's a win-win situation and

helps ease the pain of grief. Good luck with whatever you decide.

her health was poor in general, this still came as a shock. but she was in a lot

of pain and she is free of it now. please keep us in your prayers as this is a

very hard time for me, emotionally and physically. i have the responsibility of

it's not about being a martyr. i am her only nearby family and i need to sort

through everything. my mother was mentally ill and without going into

details... it would be embarrasing for both me and her to have someone else

there going through her belongings. i loved her very much, but she was a

strange woman. once i finish all of the personal things, my fiance will help me

box everything up and then i have arrangements for salvation army to come

pick up the rest of it. also, it is important to me to hurry up and get

through

this for many reasons, one of which is that i can't afford to pay rent on her

apartment this month. so if no one is around to help me when it needs to be

done, you can bet that i'm gonna do it. but i'm not doing anything stupid like

lifting furniture!

thanks for the advice, but this situation is a little different.

I am very sorry for the loss of you mother. I and my family will pray for

you during this difficult time you are going through. Any time you loose a

family member, it can have a traumatic affect on those left behind regardless

how

prepared they were for the death.

Please consult with your church as they will help you with all aspects of

preparing for the funeral, cleaning out the house, and will assist with any

other things that need to be done.

Remember that as a Christian, your mother is with the Lord, no longer in

pain, and you will see her again. Lean upon your brothers and sisters in

Christ

to get you through this difficult time.

God Bless you,

i'm much more spiritual than religious, but someone told me to read revelation

21:4, and that it would bring comfort. i found a bible in my mom's stuff and i

read it... and it did. it is a very nice passage. it made me smile and cry.

always a strange combination.

my fiance and i packed up the rest of it today. salvation army will come pick

up our donation on wednesday. all of the work is done.

thank you for your prayers.

Hey Shelby... did you mean " grassfed " instead of " grainfed " ??? :D

I've never recovered much from my brainfog and several other

symptoms. BUT, I noticed after cheating a lot that many symptoms

came back that I had forgotten about. First to come back is the achy

knuckles and ankles. But then, the puffy eyes, stiff neck with

occasional cricks, sore shoulders, etc.... and the belly bloat, of

course. I also noticed a small patch of athlete's foot on the bottom

of my foot.

There really IS something to all of this! If we could be disciplined

enough to stick with it.... grrrrrrrrrrr

This whole time, I've maintained 100% supplements, and still have no

problem tolerating 6 T of VCO daily. I can also eat my target

amounts on fitday, and don't have any reactions to all the fat like I

did in the beginning. The diarreah has been gone for a long time

now, since I cut out olive oil... but I've even been eating it lately

with my cucumber/onion/green pepper/tomato/lemon-juice/fresh basil

salad with no ill effects. I eat 4-6 T of butter daily as well, and

still have plenty of grassfed beef in the deep freeze.

My dog has been eating raw meat/bones/organs for the past 2 months

and is doing GREAT on that diet!!

I've been working at an office, and will start full-time on Monday.

I'm not crazy about it, but the money's not too bad, and as my energy

and motivation are down, I'm willing to let my organizing business

take a little rest (it has supported me for almost 10 years). The

biggest temptation in the office is trying to avoid coffee w/sugar

and cream!!! I drank some several days before camping, but now I'm

not drinking it any more. (I never was a regular coffee drinker, and

hadn't had any for 9 months prior to going to Jamaica).

Also, my biggest temptation at home is avoiding a teaspoon of ketchup

with my eggs in the morning, or with meat. :( *sigh*

Sorry to ramble....

Oh yes I meant grass. You know the kind of meat that is out in the

pasture and costs 5 bucks a pound if you buy it in bulk. I have to

drive an hour to pick up my order. I get very creative in how to

extend the life of a cut of meat. i still think somehow the cost

could average out because we don't buy twinkies or soda. However, I

am not willing to figure it up yet.

I know exactly what you are saying with old symptoms coming back. I

was thinking about that this morning. I had that old pain in my left

side coming back. I had gone for a colonoscopy last year because it

was so bad. It is gone again now. Yes I think there is something to

this. I went to a party at lake yesterday. I hauled my cooler and my

church folks don't even mention it anymore. I can't eat anything they

bring. I spent all morning preparing food for me and my son. That has

been one of the hardest parts of all this. It is hard to go places

with food because I either have to bring my own or decline. When I

explain why I am not eating or I have brought food, people don't know

whether to believe me about the candida or not. They have never heard

of it.

I think it is okay to ramble...this is our life.

Kara I am in Sylva about 45 minutes west of Asheville. I have to

drive about an hour to get my meat. I just fill the trunk full and

put it in my chest freezer. The farm is

http://www.hickorynutgapfarm.com/. I love them and their products are

so good. I am still learning where to buy good local food and when.

Try this website to find products and meat nearer to

you...http://www.eatwild.com/. This is how I find many of my sources.

I also drive to a small town called Topton to get fresh mountain

trout.

I don't think he'll go to *any* dr, much less one he would actually have to

travel to see. I have absolutely no idea how experienced his doctor was. When

Rob was first diagnosed, his dr said he should probably have the surgery done

open chest (I forget what that's called).....my husband tried to find someone

around here that would do it, with no luck. So he went back to his dr & his dr

said " I can do it laparascopically " .....it made me nervous because while he

seemed confident that it could be done, why would he have suggested the other

way?? It's like he did a lap because there was no other choice. It never dawned

on me to actually look outside of Milwaukee for a dr. Duh....

about 20 years. He was finally diagnosed in 2008 & the dr did a Heller. Wish I'd

known about this site then....I have no idea how experienced his dr was. He did

go back for a check up about 6 months after his surgery, the dr then ordered an

endoscopy because he saw something.....but my husband never followed up with

him. I assume it was nothing since the dr didn't urgently call. He then had an

episode back in February-ish where he once again couldn't get anything down. It

lasted about 3 weeks.....again, he didn't call the dr & he eventually was able

to eat again. Now it seems he hasn't had any problems....he's even been eating

meals without his ginormous glass of water. I did warn him about the E

stretching but he doesn't seem concerned about it. I've always been the

worrier....but I just started a full time job & with 2 kids....well he's on his

, this is a rare disease, seems that we are learning so much on this

site.  I would never know about these things if it weren't for this group.  I

am

learning more each day, throughout the 22yrs that I have had this problem, I

never met anyone with it, no one could relate to me.  With the group, at least

we can talk about options and gather info.

For now, figure out the best things that he can swallow and help him to eat

those things.  Certain foods work better than others sometimes.  For example,

I

can eat a couple scrambled eggs, but can barely get any kind of sandwich down.

That is me, what can he eat???  Does it all come up?

,

I wonder if your Husband realises that he is pretty much the same as most of us?

I reckon that the only difference is that he is ready to admit to his fear. I

think that many of us try to hide any negative feelings and pretend that we are

positive and brave, mainly for the sake of our loved ones, but if you could look

inside our heads, we are not so different really.

Please tell him from me (and it would be good if others could add to this

admission) that I understand. I too get frightened and try not to go to the

Doctor. I too worry about them finding something bad and worry about becoming

ill, helpless, a burden to others.

In time he will realise that he has had enough of living this half-life that he

has now and will find the strength to move forward and do something about it. He

thinks that because he has had the myotomy, he is fixed for life. Believe me

when I say that we would all love to believe that but have to admit that that

may not be the case. Maybe we should be grateful that we live in a country where

there is help available. What must it be like to live in an undeveloped country

where you would just have to get skinnier and weaker, without any help?

So I am sending him understanding and compassion, and hope that he will find the

strength that he needs to make his life better.

Ann in England.

I really have no idea Julee. He's never been one to go to the dr for

anything....checkups...illness...the only reason he ever ended up being

diagnosed was because in July of 2008 he was throwing up *everything*, including

water. He had no choice. He did recently tell me, after I once again suggested

he at least call his dr for his endoscopy results from a year & a half ago, that

every time he goes to the dr they find something wrong with him. Which is funny

because he's had no other serious problems other than the achalasia. He does

have severe asthma & allergies, but he's never seen a dr for either, he just

take OTC meds. So I guess he does have a fear of what they will find.

I thought everything was going down fine lately....he's even been eating meals

without his ginormous cup of water. But the other night we had chicken & rice

with cheese.....I guess that's what he threw up. And who knows, maybe he just

had an upset tummy. This morning he was up before I went to work & I asked how

he's feeling. I got the usual " fine " ....so it is what it is, although that cough

of his is out of control. He always says it's his reflux....do any of you have a

cough that sounds like it's coming from a 90 year old smoker?

Coughs can mean many things. At one point in my life it meant that the food was

not going down and not coming back up.....just basically stuck in the E (waiting

for me to be sleeping, and then it would come up).
