Guest guest
Going back to your previous post about strep. I don't think the OAT test can rule out strep. You need to do a blood test for ASO titer ans Dnase B titer. vocal tics can be from strep. 1 step forward, 2 steps back >> >> >> >> >> >> >>I'm longing for the 1 step forward... Guest guest
Hi -- My son (now recovered...for the most part) struggled with sky-high serotonin. I have talked to several doctors about it, and researched it for hours myself, but it seems to be a tricky problem. It seems logical that if a kid has high serotonin, he'd be very nice and calm, but if it's too high, as you know, they can get very hyper and OCD-like. I could not find a fix for the high serotonin because no one knew what to do about it (it's now resolving somewhat). Instead, I tackled some of the other problems. My son does have PANDAS. I would suggest going to http://e-pandas.com and see if anything rings true there. We did zithromax for a long time, but have stopped and now use Enhansa. It is working great! Re: the horrible leaky gut, when my son was so ill, I would make bone broth a lot. Basically, you cook a whole chicken in the crockpot for 48 hours. You get STRONG broth, and it is supposed to be very healing for the gut. Our doc talked to us about doing fermented foods, but I just couldn't (too gross for me). But the bone broth did quite a bit to heal his gut. Coconut oil is supposed to be healing too...you can buy a tub of it and cook with it. Some kids will take it from a spoon. We also LOVE enzymes. We use No-Fenol and AFP Peptizyde from Houston. We have found that, even more than the GFCF diet (which we did for 9 months), enzymes helped out son to digest foods that were difficult for him, and let his gut take a break from all the drama. My son had been ill for so long that his body was all stressed out and couldn't heal. I started this program with massage, a brushing protocol, and joint compressions. My husband or I would spent literally three to four hours a day on this. We did it that intensely for about two weeks, then backed down a bit as he calmed down. Also did lots of salt baths, and mag cream when he wouldn't take the baths. We found that once we got his body to calm down, the supplements and diet changes could work. He was just so tense that his body was in fight/flight all the time. We are also big, big fans of GABA. We would give our son 750 mg/day (he's 7 and weighs about 70 pounds) and we also tried Kirkman's GABA/Mag cream, which is a nice mix of GABA and Mag sulfate. Nice thing about transdermal is that it will bypass the gut. We also did melatonin every night so he could get some restorative sleep. And, of course, pooping pooping pooping. Gotta keep that moving! All the best! Sara > > Going back to your previous post about strep. I don't think the OAT test can rule out strep. Guest guest
Our major issue was sulfation, not methylation too. We found that GABA, mag sulfate (epsom salts baths or transdermal cream) and No-Fenol from Houston helped a lot. Enhansa might have had something to do with it, but I can't be sure about that one. We also tried other stuff but the things above seemed to be what made a positive difference. Things that made it worse were methyl B-12 shots and folinic acid. Bad, bad stuff for us...although for kids with methylation issues, it's a godsend. Guest guest
We figured out sulfation vs. methylation basically by trial and error, and studying my sons labs for hours. He responded horribly to methyl-B12 shots. Same with folinic. He got very aggressive and hyper and over-emotional. When we addressed sulfation, he made wonderful improvements. We noticed that he would be very smelly and he didn't seem to be able to detox. Sulfation work helps that to subside. Sara > > Our major issue was sulfation, not methylation too. Guest guest
Dr. Kartzinel did a report on methylation/sulfation. If anyone wants a copy, I can send it. It explains what each are and what works for each cycle. nancy j a child is diagnosed with asd every 20 seconds From: sebrown1126a <sarabrown@...> Subject: Re: 1 step forward, 2 steps back Date: Thursday, September 16, 2010, 6:50 AM  We figured out sulfation vs. methylation basically by trial and error, and studying my sons labs for hours.
