Try giving the biotin [yes, 1000mcg] with magnesium. You might need to increase the dose. > Also, the smallest biotin's I've seen in the store (major chain drugstore) are 1000 mg. Do the health food stores have the 200's? (I take it the mg's you list are biotin, not magnesium, or am I misreading > it?) I used 5mg biotin from my local health food store. I have seen as high as 8mg. Most of them are 1000mcg tho. Magnesium comes as 200 or 400mg usually. Dana
Guest guest
Hi Dana, Thanks for your help. I'm not clear on a couple things, though. " Try giving the biotin [yes, 1000mcg] with magnesium. You might need to increase the dose. " (which one might need to be increased: the magnesium or the biotin)? When you say give it with magnesium, I take it that's at the same time? We're giving her 2 Cal-Snacks (500 mg calcium, 250 mg magnesium per " snack " ) in the mornings, so the magnesium would be in addition to that (and what she's getting in the MoM, which I'm hoping we can discontinue at some point)? Is there a best time to give biotin? Thanks for your help. Is there a best time to give biotin? It is best to give separate magnesium, away from calcium. I would try to give biotin and magnesium at separate times from the calcium. This may get a little tricky, since calcium can only be absorbed approx 300-350mg at a time [unless the child is severely deficient]. So I would recommend only giving 500mg calcium at a time. So give the calcium morning and mid-day. Then the biotin/magnesium at a different time in the morning, and late afternoon. You can try giving them together if you need to, see if that works.
