This info. was for a friend. She is a diabetic (insulin shots daily) went

into the hospital when she developed sores in her mouth and lips and tongue

were swelling twice their size. Her dr. diagnosis -- a kidney/bladder

infection and yeast didn't say what caused the sores in her mouth or lips

and tongue swelling. She has been on trmt for 3 and 1/2 months standard

interferon /1000mg ribivirin. Her Dr never did a RNA PCR, no biopsy, has not

had the routine blood work done (after two weeks and then once monthly). Her

dr. says she has cirrhosis?? This is in a very small town in east Texas.

She has no insurance, trying for SS and medical benefits. Could you tell

me what you think about this. Does this Dr. know what he is doing or

what!!!

Thanks for any info., Marjorie

Marjorie,

I suppose that she could have all these things

wrong, the low WBC would make her more suceptable to

infections, including yeast infections. The sores in

her mouth could be yeast (called thrush when it occurs

in the mouth) also. Being diabetic also makes a

person more prone to yeast infections. (this isn't

much help, I know. Sorry.)

Marjorie,

He may be cutting down costs but a close watch has to be kept on white

counts and platelets. She is diabetic and more prone to infections once

the white counts are down. I think she needs to have a complete blood

profile to see as to what is going on.

one causes one and one causes the other but I forget which is which. I

finally had to tell my boss about my hep and meds. I have been working a lot

of overtime and then not able to get up the next morning to go in on time,

much less try to come in two hours earlier than normal. She has allowed me

to have my start time 30 minutes later so I have a little more leeway there

and that should help.

Who would go on treatment without a biopsy, pcr and genotype?

jeeeeeeeeeezus! I can only blame the doctor halfway in this. I feel the

patient is at least 1/3 responsible ya know. Get informed! There are books

at the bookstore about hep

Since I've had the hep.. I've had more infections of all kinds (never had a

damned bladder infection before hep! or kidney infection or sinus infection

etc).

My doc gave me 99 refills for Diflucan, cause I also get yeast infections,

esp once a month. She might try to get that esp if her yeast problems are

more of a cycle thing.

I've tried to cut down on milk and dairy products and up on juice and water.

Yep diabetics are notorious for having yeast and other problems that their

body can't balance. Good luck

She is in Atlanta, Tx. she has no insurance and is not able to work

so not much $$ either, she's trying for SS and medical benefits. She

is not paying her GI dr. he's just billing her but also he's not

treating her either. I haven't checked on her in a while, I've been

gone. Have to e-mail through a friend of hers. I know she is out of

the hospital and stopped (instructed by be-in- charge nurse and then

the GI Dr) treatment since I last heard from her. She trust her ol'

family Dr. Matt, everything he says is written in stone and she's

going to do what he says.

He doesn't know a thing about combo trmt, what to watch for , etc.

etc.

Hi ,

From what I've read about lupus, the ANA count has to be fairly high

to determine whether it's active lupus. Also there is typically

(read " usually not always " ) a butterfly type rash on the face across

the nose.

FYI, I have an elevated ANA as well. Mine is low-moderate elevation

vs mildly or severely. That was one factor that helped my doctors

determine a PA diagnosis, I think.

Here's what the Arthritis Foundation has to say on Lupus:

http://arthritis.org/conditions/DiseaseCenter/lupus.asp

If you have concerns about it, definitely talk about it with your

rheumy.

I certainly hope it's not Lupus though! That is terrible disease!

Wishing you wellness,

Meghan

Well, the doc must have changed his mind. I got a call from the nurse saying the doc had written an order for a liver enzyme check now, in 2 months and again in 4 months. So I went in on Friday for the recheck. Now it's just the waiting game to see what the results are going to be like.

I was hoping to do the liver biopsy in September but now I'm not sure if I will be able to do it then. I changed jobs and so far am not getting as many hours as I was getting with the other job. There is the potential that more hours may come in but time will tell. I hate it that my health has to depend so much on finances but I have Medicare and the co-pay is about $100 and I already owe them $45 for the abdominal ultrasound that I still have to pay.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see what my hours look like.

Thanks for listening.

Hello

Why does it take always take so long to do all the testing etc..

I have an interview for the Clinical HCV Study Program this Tuesday. They will be doing another liver biopsy since the first was done on 03/30/99. I read my biopsy and it stated moderate fibrosis with swelling cells. Fibrosis tissue found at the portal were near point to point.

Love and Hugs to all and their pets.
