Guest guest
Hi - we are still struggling to get this yeast under control. Went to a different Dr. and were told to use FOS (prebiotic) and UltraFlora IB (probiotic). I questioned this becasue the UltraFlora IB appeared to contain a milk ingrediant in the process of making it but down the label claims to be dairy-free. We are GF/CF. My son has been acting up and his eye contact is much worse and he has been waking up at night. Could this be yeast die off or a reaction to this product? How do you tell if the yeast is out of his system - by " normal " stools? How long does it typically take for the yeast to be back to normal after using a probiotic? We've been doing this for about 1 1/2 weeks now and the behaviors started about 3 days ago? I've read posts and it looks like a lot of people are using grapefruit seed extract for yeast - how do you know how much to give? Also, the same with biotin? I haven't had much luck with Doctors either. Anyone know of a good DAN Dr that we could mail/fax lab reports to and give consults via phone? Or is anyone in MN that has found a good doctor? Thank you - Amber

It can be either, or both. >>How > do you tell if the yeast is out of his system - by " normal " stools? Yeast does not always show in the bm, sometimes it is behavioral only. Info here http://www.danasview.net/yeast.htm > How long does it typically take for the yeast to be back to normal > after using a probiotic? Depends on a lot of factors. >>We've been doing this for about 1 1/2 weeks > now and the behaviors started about 3 days ago? This sounds like die off rather than intolerance. > I've read posts and it looks like a lot of people are using grapefruit > seed extract for yeast - how do you know how much to give? It is very potent. Start with one drop and increase as required. >> Also, the > same with biotin? Start with 400mcg and work up as required. Biotin is what the probiotics are manufacturing, and biotin is what the body uses to control yeast on its own. It does require magnesium for proper absorption. Guest guest
Yes, we see die off just from probiotics. It can last a few days or so. You may not see the stimming, dark circles etc go away until you kill off a lot more yeast with antifungals. Nystatin will make it worse, wait till the die off subsides some, then begin the antifungal but slowly...don't jump into the full dose right off. I do note that the liquid nystatin normally prescribed for children has aluminum and artificial color/flavor in it. If these are concerns for your child you can ask for nystatin capsules rather than the liquid or purchase the nystatin from a compounding pharmacy..Or use natural antifungals. You need a prescription for the compounded stuff. But if you use the nystatin you have, I found that giving a lot less than they say on the bottle for a few days and gradually work up to that dose will reduce the die off. Hope that helps. > > > My son has not started nystatine yet. I just stop feeding sugar, > oxalate food and white rice(carbohydrate). All of those were symptoms of yeast overgrowth at my house. Dana
