Guest guest
Dana does say 400 mcgs to start with. I am now giving my sons 16 mg and sometimes more if the yeast is up a little bit more and they do fine. I don't think you could overdose on this. That is what I have been told. You kind of have to work it and see what dose works for your child. [ ] Biotin I have been reading allot about the positive effects of biotin on the gut and yeast etc. so I decided to try some on my son. He was already on a good probiotic and had just finished some Caprylic acid a couple of days earlier for yeast. He didn't seem to really have a yeast flare up when I started the biotin, but I thought as a follow up I would give some a try. I gave a small dose (10mg) and I have to say, my son just went crazy hyper on it. He is always a very hyper kid, but this was over and above the ususal. The next day I didn't give it to him and he was better, but not back to normal. Today he seems back to normal. Does anyone have any ideas on what could have caused this adverse reaction to the biotin, I haven't heard any other bad reaction comments. I wonder if it's a clue to other things he won'e tolerate well. Thanks a bunch, Donna ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
>>I gave a small dose (10mg) and I have to say, my son just > went crazy hyper on it. That is a rather large dose, especially to start. Most kids tend to need 5-10mg, but I certainly would not start there. I started my son with 400mcg [which is USRDA] and worked up from there. At his highest, he needed 20mg 3x per day. However, when I tried increasing it more than that, it did cause hyper and other problems. And as his need for biotin reduced, it caused hyper until I reduced it. So it sounds to me like you gave him too much. Dana

And did you add magnesium? thanks again, kim biotin have any of you had as much success with biotin as dana has? thanks, kim
Guest guest
Kim, Dana says to start with 400mcg's and build up. I use the one that is 5000mcg's and started with 1 a day and built up to 2-3x's a day. My kids were really yeasty. If you experience headaches then you know you have taken too much. As far as the magnesium goes, you have to experiment. Start with a low dose and work up until you see diahrea and then back off 500mg.s. That is what the healthfood store recommended. Biotin requires magnesium for proper absorption. Sometimes, biotin won't be very effective unless given with magnesium. Other times, biotin will be constipating until given with magnesium. biotin have any of you had as much success with biotin as dana has? thanks, kim

Guest guest
My daughter bangs her chin on the floor and just today for the first time she took my hand and put it on her forehead, then tickled her forehead with her hand. Guest guest
I give it to her first thing in the morning. She get one tablespoon of it with double the amount boiled, distilled water. I do add Stevia and a little bit of pear juice from the juicer. I asked around and was told this was okay. I'm sure if you water it down it's okay. Ruby will drink anything that has Stevia in it now. I have been able to get her onto water this way. She used to be addicted to apple juice, so I'm happy she will take this. > > > > > > > > > > My son is too young to tell me if he has headaches. Guest guest
Whole foods doesn't carry stevia (here anyway) - I read a sign a couple of days ago saying they do not carry sugar substitutes. Trader joes had it, not sure if you have one by you or not. Guest guest
I get the " Now " brand at a bulk place here. I know our healthfood stores have it too. I completely took the apple juice away one day and only gave her water with Stevia, it didn't take long for her to drink it. I hate being hard on her, but it was for her own good. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My son is too young to tell me if he has headaches. This is so frustrating. He's now in the midst of a 10 day course of Diflucan. I'd like to try probiotics iwth him, and someone else suggested adding Biotin to that,as its supposed to help combat yeast. I really dont know anything about it......does anyone here? Ive talked to his dr about the probiotics, and she said to go ahead and try that--but Im not sure about the Biotin thing. Guest guest
Getting rid of yeast will. That is what they are both working toward. Is it excessive diarrhea, or just normal BM or are you taking urine. I don't know that it would increase urine. P.
