Guest guest
Yep! IgG Test This may seem like a silly question, but does a child have to be consuming the offending food for the antibodies to show up on the IgG test? My son is supposed to have this test, but he is GFCF. TIA, Robyn
Guest guest
Well, if it were my daughter I'd want a CBC, SMAC, IgE,and IgG done if her pediatrician had not already been doing them every year or so. If she has no indication of allergy then IgE may not be vital, but IgG is worth looking at in all autistic children at least once or twice. Who has been giving her care? How many physicians does she have? What tests was she given at what age? Dr. Von IgG test My daughter has an appt to see her DAN doc on Saturday. She has been seeing him since October. My question is: should I push the issue of having an IgG test done for sensitivities?? He has not done any bloodwork on her. He has only put her on diflucan and some supplements. I take that back, the only bloodwork he does is her liver function since she is on diflucan. Any thoughts?? thanks! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
We had done IgG in the past a couple of times; also traditional and not so traditional allergy workups. None showed very much. We knew by horrible behavior responses that peanut and cocoa caused problems - the IgG for these was not impressive. A celiac disease workup in mainframe did not yield any clues - no IgA to measure, IgG repsonse was slightly elevated, biopsy negative. In ~2001, IgG done for gluten and casein antibodies through Alletess Lab reported extremely high IgG response to both. This was done as part of a study in FL. Taking her off gluten and casein was a major step in taming seizures that were out of control. She was almost 16 when we did this. So fast forward several years to fall 2006. A complete IgG panel done through Alletess showed multiple problems. So many of the foods we routinely used were causing immune upset. It was coordinated with skin testing and many items are out of her diet. Eliminating these foods, rotating the ones she could tolerate has resulted in a rise in IgA. For the first time in 10+ years it has crept out of the 'non measureable' category. Abdominal bloating is down, constant hunger/grazing has been eliminated. If this child had been a respiratory responder to allergens, she would have 'lived' in the er. Instead, no one took note of the extreme neuro irritability as a product of food sensitivity. imo, not all IgG panels are equal just like all urine porphyrin testing is not equal. I would not waste time/$ again doing IgG through any other lab- no, I don't have any connection to this lab, $ or otherwise. Unless you want to play around with elimination diets for a few months, I would strongly urge you to prod your doc about this. > > My daughter has an appt to see her DAN doc on Saturday. Guest guest
Does you insurance cover your visit to the DAN? If not, a good allergist in net work then or even your family/ped doctor. I think if you are avoiding any foods, see issues, I would so go for food testing. It may just surprise you and explain any strange behavior. IMO. Guest guest
unfortunately, insurance doesn't cover any of her appt/tests. but, i'm willing to spend the money to find out what she is truly sensitive to. i've tried my best to do the elimination diet per our DAN. but, honestly, it was very hard to do, and with my daughter having just a handful of foods she'll eat...........well you know how that goes! :-( food testing? is that the same as the IgG test? > > Does you insurance cover your visit to the DAN? Guest guest
Yes! Great Plains and other labs offer testing. So check prices if money is an issue. Otherwise you can go through your doctor, covered by insurance? And ask for these tests. All our allergy testing, via blood, is done through Mayo. We've had food and environmental done via Mayo. I guess I worry that many DANS are out of pocket for many and expensive. Many of these tests can be run through " reg " doctors with the use of insurance. I'm all for saving money since all the biomedical stuff gets expensive. JMO. Tammy IgG test > > > > My daughter has an appt to see her DAN doc on Saturday. She has been > seeing him since October. Guest guest
To me it was worth it to pay cash. I was stunned at some of the huge allergens that I had not discovered, and it gave me a baseline for a rotation diet vs. allergens I really needed to eliminate. US Biotek offers a finger prick test that you can do at home and mail in on test strips, for about $100 for the basic allergy panel and $125 for an additional vegetarian or spice panel plus the basic one. I did the finger prick on my son because I couldn't justify the extreme trauma of a blood draw - it's not even really possible - it was really helpful, and it comes back with a ton of useful information to help with the results. Guest guest
thanks for the responses! so, should i just order the test myself and do the finger prick. it takes 4 adults to hold down my dd for her monthly blood draws and it breaks my heart to see her like that. like i said, the money isn't the biggest thing right now. but i don't know what i HAVE/should/need to eliminate so i need something to guide me in the right direction. should i ask my DAN doc about the finger stick? > > > > > > Does you insurance cover your visit to the DAN? Guest guest
Why do you need monthly blood draws? Are you monitoring a problem? We've been drawing blood twice a year, at most: CBC/metabolic panel to check organ function during chelation. Pam > > > > > > > > Does you insurance cover your visit to the DAN? Guest guest
Pam, My dd is on diflucan, so DAN watches her liver function on it. I would like to stop that completely and go natural but when I do, her stools become water again. :-( > > > > > > > > > > Does you insurance cover your visit to the DAN? Guest guest
Yes, if I remember correctly a doctor actually needs to place the order for that test kit directly with US Biotek. They can just call though. Did I mention I did it while my son was sleeping? It was great.. he was never in any distress and they ran over 100 foods...
