Guest guest
Hi Ywellen, We haven't experienced this problem. In fact, has never had a nosebleed. I think anyone taking aspirins or other NSAIDs may tend to clot less well, though. Maybe a humidifier in her room would help moisten the air, if it's too dry inside? Sorry I couldn't offer more help. Hope someone can let you know what to do do prevent this. Let us know what you find out. Guest guest
Ywellen, When were your daughters last labs? I would have her platelet count checked this is what halps our blood clot. The NSAIDS & even MTX can effect our blood clottong ability. My daughter has had problems in the past before DX . Always her paletlets were off. An aside... never tilt your daughters head back when her nose is bleeding this can lead to shock. Firlmy pinch her nose just below bridge & hold steady for several minutes. I would call your dr & mention the nosebleeds to be on the side of caution. They could just be a coinciedence but better to ere on the side of caution. Let us know ....... Hope this helps Kris
Guest guest
Yes she is on mtx. When we went in the other day to get over results from the lab test her mtx level was very low, so her ped. called her rh. ped and he said that's it's not thing to worry about at this time. Her nose just started bleeding for no reason at all. Well, I just got off the phone with her peds. nurse ans she said to just pinch the nose for 5 minutes then sees what happens then if is start again repeat what I just done then if it hasn't stopped tkae her to the e.r. to get her checked out. I gonna end up taking her to the dr anyway because I need to know what's going on with her. Thanks for your help too. Ywellen
Guest guest
Is she on mtx? If so the nose bleeds are usually an indication of low platelets and is very serious. Since mtx can drop the platelets. It can also happen on aspirin or nsaids, and it's not usually as serious a complication but does need to be checked out to make sure it's not medicine related. Guest guest
Another good idea for nose bleeds is to put ice on the nape of the neck to help stop the bleeding. Teri
Guest guest
Hello Tracie I don't have nose bleeds, I think you misread the mail. Sorry to hear about yours though, sounds very distressing. Odd that your doctor takes no notice - can you get another doctor's opinion?. Guest guest
Hi Janet Sorry for the mistake, and yes my doctor referred me to a specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital. I am due to see him again Dec 5th and will discuss this with him. Unfortunatley I forgot to mention this on my first visit. I had so much to tell him that some things were forgotten. Guest guest
Debby, When I had a severe nose bleed that put me in the ER via the rescue squad the EMT's said to put a 4 x 4 gauze in your mouth between you teeth and your lips at the base of your nose and push. This was the only way they could get mine to stop. There is a main artery that runs in this area and if you do this and push firmly it will stop it every time. Much quicker that holding or pinching your nose. Mine was bleeding so badly that I was choking. This works quite quickly. Maybe it will help next time. I didn't realize this but it works. Guest guest
, thank you for that tip. Next time I get one of those bad bloody noses, I WILL use that idea! Sometimes when I put my head back, I do begin to choke on the blood! It is rather frightening! Thanks again. debby Re: [ ] Nose bleeds Debby,When I had a severe nose bleed that put me in the ER via the rescue squad the EMT's said to put a 4 x 4 gauze in your mouth between you teeth and your lips at the base of your nose and push. Guest guest
Debby, It's crazy. I have worked for MD's all my life and a GI doctor for 17 years so I knew what was going on when I had the variceal bleed and I knew how dangerous it was but the nose bleed scared the HECK out of me. It was much more frightening to me. I guess the sight of all the blood is what freaked me out and the fact that I just could not stop it. I was in the shower when it started so mixed with water it looked like a whole lot more than it actually was. It was substantial though. It dropped my HGB. So I don't mess around with nose bleeds either.
Guest guest
, thank you for the info about bloody noses. I have them from time to time. One year, I was giving the state mandated tests to my class. suddenly, my nose started bleeding....it would not stop. So, I held my nose tight, head back, and read the directions to the class through a very nasal sounding voice! The kids must have understood that something was wrong, because they were just perfect. Finally, about 20 minutes later, things got better, and I could resume my day. Then, today, a similar thing happened. My nose started bleeding....right down my face. So off to the nurse I went to lie down! Silly me....it stopped within a few moments. I HATE it when it just starts to drip down. No warning...nothing...just drip drip! Guest guest
Wow Debby you did bleed alot. It always looks like alot to me, but I remember back to my EMT training. They had us dye a pint of water, then poor it on the ground. It was shocking how much one pint looks like when spread all over the ground. Haven't had any nosebleeds in the shower yet. They conveniently happen half the time while I am on the potty. Plenty of tissue around, but very hard to get you pants back on one handed. Mine like to come whn ever I wear white. Or when I am not at homw. the store, relatives house, some placew wo make it good and emberassing. Especially when I don't feel it and they see it first. Yech. It as amazing how many people can flinch at the sight of blood - what wimps! Love, Carole K > Debby,
Guest guest
Jenn- I get nosebleeds frequently. And as some might have all ready told you it can be a sign of something going bad in the liver - as our dear Jerry tells us, LFT's do not reflect health of the liver, only that inflamation is down or up. My doc is not worrying since my 'numbers' are in normal range, which makes me worry about my doctor! Liver failing can cause esophageol varices - a.k.a. vericose veins of the throat and nose. BUT, lupus can also cause ulcers of the nasopharynx, in addition to the mouth. Ulcer in nose usually =nosebleed for me. But your doc needs to be on top of it and should do a scope just to be on the safe side. Hope I help a little. Love, CArole K
Guest guest
I was having bloody noses BEFORE taking Armour. Since I've started taking Armour, no problems! Sometimes high blood pressure can cause bloody noses; mine is low though. Sometimes really dry air can cause nose bleeds. Guest guest
Hello Barb, My mother started getting bloody noses 3 in 4 days or so and she read instructions on some myacalcin sp? she was taking and found that was the cause of it. She also takes pregnenalone...but she's checking with the dr. they said they will probably want to change her prescription...Maybe it is something else you are taking that is causing the bloody noses? Guest guest
Hi Cristal, I am now 32 y/o and when I was growing up I suffered from a lot of nosebleeds, sometimes 3/day. My father also went through the same thing. I went to many doctors and basically they never found anything wrong with me other than some capillaries were closer to the surface, when my allergies would act up (sneezing, rubbing my nose, etc...) the vessel would break. I had my nose cauterized several times but it always came back, it was always a temporary fix. As with my father, as I got older my nosebleeds have subsided significantly, I now get maybe 1 every 4 months and it is very, very minor. I guess they go away with age, you outgrow them. When I was a teenager though they were pretty bad. Things that seemed to trigger the nosebleeds the most, although I would get them with no irritants present, like sitting in the movie theater perfectly comfortable and down comes a gush of blood like as if I just had my nose busted open (funny thing, when I did have my nose broken it did not bleed not even half of what my worst nosebleeds were): Dry heat; would dry out my nose terribly and I would always get one. To this day I can't take radiated heat at all, especially at night. Allergies; sneezing and rubbing your nose. Pokes (or hits) on the nose. Sleeping; for some reason I would get one at night very often and wake to find dried blood all over. Well to finally answer your question, no I don't think it is because of candidiasis. Hopefully your son will outgrow them quickly. Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it, in actuality you don't really lose any significant amount of blood, it is just more of a pain in the rearend. Keep us posted. Guest guest
Hi again Cristal: I agree with Todd. Candida causes a lot of things but I've never heard of it causing nosebleeds. Also, when I was young I had a lot of nosebleeds too and had to have my nose cauterized. Like Todd, I outgrew them. However, having said that, go with your gut feeling - if your son't nosebleeds are too frequent and are worrying you that much, find another doctor and get another opinion. Also, your doctor saying that cod liver oil or garlic might have caused nosebleeds is rather strange. In any research I've done, garlic and cod liver oil and two of the most beneficial things you can ingest!! Sounds to me like you're a conscientious parent. And finally - go on curezone and ask s or one of the other natural healers what they think. There's a lot of good information on that site - www.curezone.com Cheers - p .. > > Well to finally answer your question, no I don't think it is because of candidiasis. Guest guest
Hi Cristal, I used to get nose bleeds all the time too. It still sometimes happens but I think it may have something to do with EFA deficiency. I remember reading that somewhere before. Duncan may have more insight into it *8-)
Guest guest
About one year after I was dx with AIH, I recalled a period of time - oh about one month or so, that I had one nose bleed after another. I guess it is one of the hazards of this disease. Once I began the treatment, they eased up. However, they have begun again but I see the doctor so will ask her the next time I see her Debby [ ] Nose bleeds Hey everybody finally something i can ask if anyone else goes through nosebleeds. I just started having them about 3 months ago.Sometimes it is everyday for a few days, sometimes 2 or 3 a day. I had one again this evening as i was trying to get something eat. I made a nice light supper for everyone, and then i just felt that feeling and grabbed a klennex and waited 15 minutes or so then it stopped. The weird part is i am anemic right now. Well it is confusing. Just thought i would ask and see what you all would say about it. Guest guest
I don't have full-blown nosebleeds but have times where I get choked and cough up stuff that it is tinged with blood & /or blow my nose and it looks the same way. Only once was it all blood. Just today, while I was using a public bathroom & in the stall, when I began one of these choking fits and had to wondering what would've happened if things got any worse & no one could get to me. It's a scary feeling! Imagine my surprise when we got home and I opened up the chat line, to find this being the subject. tdcc2000@... wrote: About one year after I was dx with AIH, I recalled a period of time - oh about one month or so, that I had one nose bleed after another.
