Guest guest
Dear Kurt, Thank you for the article. Do you know whether this type of scan is commonly used for cancer? It seems like it'sindicated for vascular disease. Reply-SLL-CLL-edu SLL-CLL-edu Subject: M Date: Sun, 26 Feb 2006 00:23:04 +0000 Dear Marietta, Here is another previous article from concerning the same CT-Scan MRI situation. Here in this one it is explained which MRI Scan you can ask for to get an even much more clear picture of your insides etc. Kurt. s former post: [The results from an MRI can look stunning. And much safer than a CT scan.] New Contrast Agent MS-325 Breakthrough in MRI Angiography MS-325 is likely to be the first imaging pharmaceutical approved in the U.S. for magnetic resonance angiography, providing a breakthrough method to capture information about the human vascular system. MS-325 reversibly binds to the human blood protein albumin, allowing imaging of the blood vessels for about one hour after use. With a single injection, MS-325 enables sharp three-dimensional images of arteries and veins throughout the body. MS-325 could make it possible for physicians to detect vascular disease earlier and to evaluate therapeutic options including percutaneous intervention and vascular surgery. In December 2003, EPIX Pharmaceuticals submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) to the FDA for detection of vascular disease. The NDA was the culmination of an eight-year development program that included 18 clinical trials, 1,438 subjects, and over a million safety data points. In every pivotal trial along the way, MS-325 met its primary endpoints. All four Phase III clinical trials demonstrated that MS-325-enhanced MRA provided overall accuracy similar to X-ray angiography. In addition, it provides several important patient benefits: No arterial catheterization; just a single intravenous injection is needed No patient exposure to ionizing radiation No nephrotoxic dyes Complete vascular exam of multiple body regions for a more comprehensive diagnosis Less invasive than X-ray angiography, reducing patient discomfort and recuperation time Visualization of vessel wall structures Other indications are also being studied. MS-325 is in Phase II clinical trials for coronary artery disease and myocardial perfusion. The clinical results of MS-325 are complemented by a robust commercialization plan. EPIX Pharmaceuticals has a worldwide marketing and sales agreement with Schering AG, the world's premier MRI contrast media company. That market strength will put MS-325 exactly where it should be – in the hands of physicians at leading hospitals and imaging centers around the world. (For an example of the sharp images possible, go to this site, look under 'View Representative Images', click on MS-325 Clinical Trials, click on Heart/Chest, then click on 'enlarge thumbnail.' Impressive picture of the major blood vessels in the chest.) -------------- Original message -------------- From: " Marietta Abrams " <mbrill100@...> Thanks so much for the info on the CTs. I've raised this issue with my MD, without any real facts to support me, and now I have em. It kind of puts me in a quandry cause I like my doctor very much, but don't want to continue with the scans. What do you all think about scans and thei rmedical value? I'm not really convinced about the value of so many scans anyway...cause at Stage IV, I feel that my bloods are more telling than lymphs. I had lots of nodal involvement but what really sent me over the edge was out of balance bloods (really low red/platelets, sky high whites). It seems to me that if I'm feeling okay and my bloods are okay, what difference does it make whether my nodes are .5 cm larger or smaller?
