Guest guest
My son is taking 30mg per day (yes mg) - and I have not noticed any difference in the way his hair or nails are growing. From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Anani Vasquez Sent: Wednesday, January 21, 2009 4:19 PM Subject: Another biotin question We have already bought OLE and Candex to help with yeast die-off, but biotin seems to be considered the best at taking care of this issue. I also read that it promotes hair and nail growth. This is actually a concern of mine. My 4 yr old son has a light mustache that has been remarked upon by strangers. My 3 yr old has hair all over his body, not thick, but enough so that it is almost like an early teen. I DO NOT need more and faster growing facial hair. Is it possible that biotin would cause us more issues in unseemly hair growth?
Guest guest
Actually biotin was recommended to me for my daughter as she was starting to lose a lot of her hair. Since she's been on it, I've seen a great improvement in very little falling out now. How much do you have your boys on at this time? You might want to take a break from it and see what happens. Hopefully someone else can give you a better answer than mine. Guest guest
that seems like it might be more hormonal. linda rn Another biotin question We have already bought OLE and Candex to help with yeast die-off, but biotin seems to be considered the best at taking care of this issue. In my experience, biotin deficiency was one of the reasons my son had a yeast problem in the first place. So yes, it was essential for long-term healing. Is it possible that biotin > would cause us more issues in unseemly hair growth? It is required for " healthy " hair and nails. At my house, two of my kids had very thin hair, and thin/brittle nails. Those issues are resolved now, because of biotin and a few other things, but the biotin did not cause " excessive " growth, it just corrected the problem area. My other two kids had thick hair and nails, and the biotin did not make things worse. Dana
Guest guest
I would exercise caution wi the biotin - not because of biotin per se but because it appears to have some influence on other systems in the body besides hair growth. There is another group I'm on that someone had been told to use biotin to halt precocious puberty in a girl - I never did hear more info on that but I personally would not fool with that by myself - affects so many things in our bodies. You may want to consult an endocrinologist about hormonal balance - the hormones testosterone and androgen may be out of balance. I'm pulling from old college studies but -  Androgen is influenced by the pituitary gland at the base of the head. The Pituitary directs some of the balance of testosterone, estrogens, androgens in our bodies. Anybody w hirsutism ( excess hair ) and any other indications of sexual precocity should probably be looked at.  My own experience - I had a bacterial GI tract infection and as part of supplementation after I was finished w antibiotics my Dr had me take huge amounts of biotin - 5 mg per day - my hair stopped falling out but I also started growing hair on my face.  This is one area I would go to an MD about if it were I. Guest guest
Dana (Moderator here) has been recommending Biotin and GSE for years for yeast to many people including myself with NO problems whatsoever, this is a bit of an alarmist reaction, This is the first I have ever heard of this sort of thing, We have been using it for over a year with no problems whatsoever,Biotin is one of the B vitamins. When I did this with my son [he had warts, and also he had the virus in his brain], I had to give him 20mg biotin 3x per day to control the yeast. For myself, I am taking at least that much biotin, and it is causing some nice improvements in several areas, not just yeast control. It probably depends on the person and the specific issues.
