Guest guest
I had severe acne into my twenties from the time I was 12 ACCUTANE was the only medication that helped to CURE my acne. This medication is essentially an overdose of vitamin A that overtime causes the oil glands of the skin to shrink. There are side effects, extemely dry skin, a detrimental/fatal effect on the fetus, and a lifetime need for lotions if an extended treatment regimine is required. My acne was so severe that I faced scaring and had much problems even with the usual acne treatments of special soaps and medications. The after effects of needing to apply lotion after shaving and all the time during the winter or very dry weather is worth not having severe acne. I need no other acne control to date, only use shampoo to wash all of my body, and even shave less as a result of the treatment. Please speak with a doctor about any issue regarding such a drastic treatment and remember the sensory repercussions associated with this medication, itchy dry skin and occasional cracks and bleeding, for those on the spectrum prior to commencing treatment. I am autistic and only took this medication in my 20's. I was on 3 seperate treatments for my severe acne and it did give me many sensory issues. However to date what few pimples I get are small and easily controled with daily washings with mild soaps. http://speakup.today.com
Guest guest
Thanks but I'd rather not use accutane. I try to stick to naturals only.cathy

Guest guest
I understand the desire to give only naturals...being that vitiamin A is a natural suppliment I thought it might help...BTW I am just a high functioning autistic trying to help, not a spokes person for accutane. At the time I was on it the cost was over 400.00 for those with no health insurance. Perhaps if large doses of vitamin help...smaller doses could aid, as I read from a previous post about a regimine of all natural suppliments. Again, just trying to help.... http://speakup.today.com
Guest guest
I also was on accutane in my teens(40's now). It is only used for severe cases. It really did work but reflect back now and also reading latest reports on it, I am wondering if this was some of my issues back then. I think this is one I would only use as a desperate measure. They now require risk waivers to be signed, that is how risky of a med it is. But boy it sure did work. Guest guest
Sorry to be late getting into this discussion - I am 56 years old and get pimples from eating chocolate, tomatoes or anything that has corn in it which is just about everything. My 16 year old daughter also reacts to chocolate and tomatoes by breaking out. Avoiding those foods though does not clear up her face so we are investigating other options for her.
