Guest guest
Can anyone suggest a good alternative for cow's milk? We've used rice milk which fed yeast. DariFree would also feed yeast since it's potato based. We're now using Almond milk which I was really happy about, but yesterday I read a post about how it might not be good either because it has metals. I know I can probably make my own, but was wondering if there was a brand or alternative product. Thanks,
Guest guest
I use hemp milk with my kids, they prefer the vanilla flavoured one. Different brands taste differently. It's high in Omega 3's and omega 6's. Good luck! Guest guest
I saw the post on the GFCFkids Group. It is message #365411. I need to look into this more because my son loves the almond milk. It seems everything is bad! It reads: Please be careful with almond and rice milk, I was just reading in Hulda 's Answer to Cancer that the scientific breakdown of Rice and Almond milk is that they are filled with heavy metals, specifically aluminum, plus because of the insufficient amounts of protein and fatty acids, The child run's a risk of developing Kwashiorkor or the same disease that Travolta's son had, due to his time taken at birth from his parents and put in a scientology lab and fed " scientology " baby food.... I had given both rice and almond milk to my son when he was celiac and autistic, and then when I found out what I had given him and how it was making him worse-it made me completely change my naturopathic practice around and my motherhood.. .. Is there anyway you can get a hold of raw goat milk or raw cows milk? If you go to rawmilk.org or visit the weston price foundation website, there is plenty of information. I put all of my autistic kids in my office on it and my own son, who is no longer celiac or autistic, even people who are " allergic " to dairy are usually just allergic to the broken down pasturized and homogenized components of commercial milk-which makes it not really " milk " anymore..... Guest guest
Thanks! I'll give it a try. It's higher in sugar (yeast), but that's preferable to metals. > > From: cimna19 <cimna19@...> > Subject: Alternative for Milk > > Date: Thursday, January 22, 2009, 12:11 PM > > > > > > > Can anyone suggest a good alternative for cow's milk? > > We've used rice milk which fed yeast. Guest guest
Re heavy metals in Hemp and Almond milk, are you talking about the ones that come in the 32 oz (1 Quart) box? I understand these containers are lined with aluminum. Open up the box, you will see what I mean. The only way around would be to make your own " nut milk " . That means finding a source for raw hemp seeds or raw organic almonds. It is delicious!! The organic almonds need to be soaked overnight first, drained, then put into a blender with clean water. The pulp can be squeezed out into a nut milk bag, but I like the pulp myself. (Google nut milk bag or " nut milk " for recipe) You can add your own vanilla/sweeteners. Guest guest
I hate to be the dissenting voice, but we've tried two brands of hemp milk & both were (in my opinion) quite nasty tasting. To me, it was like drinking milk through a dusty shirt.  The boys won't touch the stuff. However, we did use it in baking, cooking & found it added nice flavour to pancakes. But, it is about 4.00 for about 1 litre, too much to spend on just baking.  What about coconut milk? We've tried that & like it. It's also a natural yeast fighter. http://www.gfcfcanadianstyle.wordpress.com http://www.allaboutpotential.wordpress.com __________________________________________________________________ Ask a question on any topic and get answers from real people. Guest guest
If you use coconut milk make sure you are getting calcium and vitamin d from another source. I am never going back to cow milk or any other animal milk again. It is my opinion that humans shouldn't consume milk(and only human milk) past the age of 4 or so, but should get all their nutrients from their food and if that is not possible use supplements. I don't like most milk subs, the only ones I tolerate at all are rice milk, vance's dari-free and almond milk, we alternate them, but mostly use rice because I can't pay what they are asking for the almond milk all the time. I have tried them all and I really can't even swallow the others and certain brands of rice milk are nasty too. I also use coconut milk, but not really as a milk substitute except for ice cream. If it doesn't taste good it doesn't matter how good it is because we are not going to eat or drink it. -Undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome Stay at home mom to 3, Wife to -6-6-02-Autism Spectrum, the light of my life Katy-11-19-03-undiagnosed genetic syndrome that includes cleft palate-Pierre Robin Sequence, scoliosis, heart defects, short stature, low muscle tone, developmental delay, oral defensiveness, g tube fed part time-working on oral feeding, slightly dysmorphic features, and my joy J.D-no issues except he is totally in love with mommy, cutest baby in the world visit my blog http://busiestmommyinamerica.blogspot.com " If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart! Guest guest
I did a little research and didn't find anything negative about Almond milk except that it's expensive. I did try to give my son the hemp milk and he would not have it. So, I may stick with the Almond milk. If anyone finds anything else on the Almond milk, please let us know. Thanks, > > I hate to be the dissenting voice, but we've tried two brands of hemp milk & both were (in my opinion) quite nasty tasting. It's also a natural yeast fighter. > > > > http://www.gfcfcanadianstyle.wordpress.com > > http://www.allaboutpotential.wordpress.com > > > __________________________________________________________________ > Ask a question on any topic and get answers from real people. Guest guest
We tried the Hemp milk and felt the same way. I couldn't get my 9 yr old to take it, so we're with the almond milk and calcium supplements. I do give him coconut yogurt/ice cream which he likes. Actually, he's learn to accept since he can't have the real stuff any more! Guest guest
I personally like the Vance's Diary Free and use that as a sub when I cook or make his ice-cream. My son still prefers West Soy Rice Milk, vanilla one. I've not seen hemp milk in my area nor have I tried almond because of a peanut allergy.
